How does that work? You have to ask for them to apply the discount? I have never had Verizon lower my price after my two year contract was expired. Hell, my last phone I bought second-hand and I STILL paid the same price as when I had an on contract phone. My fault for sure, but talk about throwing money away. It makes me a little sick thinking about it.

only for the MORE Everything plans (not for legacy plan), have to ask them (or select the option online)

you get a $15 (<6GB buckets) or $25 discount (6GB or more data buckets) for EDGE or non-contract lines

So if your monthly payments for the phone on EDGE are less than your line access discount you are saving money over a 2 year contract.
.

minor note:you have to compare the extra monthly payments (EDGE vs on-contract) AND the down payment too

eg: iPhone 6 16GB

EDGE: $649/24 = $27/month extra.... over 24 months = $649

On-contract: $199 downpayment PLUS $15(<6GB) or 25/month(>=6GB) extra... over 24 months = $559 or $799, plus $40 upgrade fee
Aren't you "financing" the phone on the regular plan too?

I am still not clear if I should use Edge or not if I am keeping my phone for two years. Sounds like I should stick with the regular 2 year contract.

"on-contract" is just the old way of hiding the device subsidy in your monthly cost.

EDGE makes it clear that it's a device financing plan only... you pay exactly the retail cost of the device (eg: $649 iPhone 6 16GB + sales tax). no $40 upgrade fees, no extra interest/fees....

If you can make do with your existing phone longer than 2 years, you save money. If you can make do with a used phone (or a $200 LG G2 new from BestBuy), go do it... If you can make do with a cheaper phone directly from Verizon, go do it

as I've shown above, do the math yourself, and see which one is cheaper over 24 months... or just get a $200 LG G2 and call it even
