Verizon DSL speed upgrade

Verizon has cut prices on DSL service. New subscribers can sign up for $34.95/month and get 1.5M/128. Most current subscribers who have 768/128 are paying $39.99 or even $49.99 per month. 1.5M/128 customers pay like $60/month. If you are a current subscriber you can call them up and they will give you the rate reduction and corresponding speed increase. The only issue is that if you are over 12K feet from the CO, you won't get the speed increase to 1.5M. But, you can get the rate reduction.

Eww, according to their homepage, they're using MSN now. Does that mean you actually are becoming an MSN user with Verizon as the underlying DSL provider? Or is it just that they give you the software and an account with MSN if you want to log on, like using AOL's Bring Your Own Access plan (considering they claim it's a 9.95 value, that's probably it).

Still, only 128k upload.

Use MSN only if you want to. It's like they're giving you free MSN 8 BYOA (albeit customized for Verizon probably).

If it's anything like Qwest did last year, you become an MSN subscriber - you have to transfer your email address over, etc. Need tech support? "Thank you for calling MSN Tech Support."

It is my understanding that you DO NOT have to use MSN. It's a matter of calling billing and they will make the $$ change go into effect and then VADI will reprovision your line for the higher speed.

Some times there is a pleasant surprise.

I use Verizon DSL for two years, and thus far did not have one single problem.

I called Verizon (New York Tri-State Area), and was told that old customer?s accounts will be automatically updated for price and speed as of the next billing cycle.

No need to call.
