Here is my experience. I've been paying $35 per month and called Verizon today to get the $30 per month rate. You can check more info on dslreports.com or fatwallet.com It seems like people were able to get the lower rate AND one or two free months.

CALL THE CANCELLATION DEPARTMENT IF YOU WANT ONE OR TWO FREE MONTHS!!!

I only got my rate reduced to $29.95 and no free months!!! I called 800-567-6789 billing department and the rep wasn't very helpful. She kept insisting that the new rate was for new customers signing from June 1st to 30th. I asked her to ask her supervisor and she came back in 2 min and said since I've been a loyal customer, they could apply the new rate to me as a courtesy service. Yeah right!

Once I got my rate reduced to $29.95 I asked for one free month new customers are getting. She said she couldn't do it then I said I wanted to cancel my DSL. Since I asked for the cancellation department, the rep explained how I won't get a free month even if I reorder blah blah blah... SHE ASKED ME IF I REALLY WANTED TO CANCEL THREE TIMES! I SAID YES YES YES and she finally transferred me to the cancellation department... was on hold for like 5 min.

The new rep said since the first rep already put an order for $29.95 per month, she could not give me a free month... She said she could and would have given me a free month if I spoke to the cancellation department first... She said once I request cancellation, my DSL will be disconnected in 2-4 days. I asked when my billing period would end and it was till the end of this month. I said I'll call back if I still want to cancel at the end of the month. Do you think the cancellation dept rep was bluffing about she could not give me a free month since they already put in a new order for me???

The whole thing took about 20 min... I'm thinking about canceling at the end of the month and try cable. I think my cable company has one month free trial for their 3Mbit internet service...

Thanks for the info!

I'll pass the monthly savings to a friend on Verizon DSL.

You've got the monthly savings, is it really worth all of the hastle for one free month?

What's the monthly cost for cable internet access after your free month? Will you have to by hardware?

Verizon DSL 1.5M / 384kbit for $29.95 per month
I think Cox cable is $45 per month for 3Mbit.

Verizon DSL is horrible here in West Texas. The service goes down for days, and the speeds are half of what cable offers. FWIW I use Cox and have the 3Mbit down / 256 up plan for $39.95 mo., plus I own my own Motorola SB5100 modem.

Here's my Broadband Reports speedtest

;)

My neighbor is getting it this week. I want to wait and see what speeds they get before dropping cable. Cable here is expensive. We get 3mb down for $44/mo. $30 a month for DSL isn't bad.

Optimum Online from Cablevision is great. It's $45.00 per month if you have cable and $50.00 if you don't. It has a top speed of about 10Mbps/1Mbps. I have personally gotten about 9.4Mbps/1Mbps using a Speakeasy speed test.

Here in old Iowa we have Qwest DSL and we get for $40.00 a month 1.5 megabit down and 896k up!!!! That's around 100 KILOBYTES a second up.

Cable is the same price (actually about a buck more) and it has 3.0 megabit down and 256k up.

Qwest DSL is crazy. The upload ROCKS (although Cablevision sounds pretty insane.... a lot better than this. But hey, whatcha gonna do. I live in Iowa for cripes sake)

But this Verizon deal sounds AWESOME for 30.

Should be noted this is no contract as well, even with the free month with this Verizon deal.
