Verizon DSL and router dropouts - Correct settings?

Hello all
Not sure where else to ask this as Verizon has been less than helpful. I've got Verizon DSL with a Westell 6100. I have it set up on one Dell pc without a problem. A few months ago I setup a linksys wrt54 router for the wireless connection and had no problems. Fast forward to New years Day when I had a lot of troulbe conecting or staying connected. I called verizon went hrough all the motions, set the modem back to just the PC and everything checked out ok. Verizon said it must be router. I restored the router and had intermittent times when I would have to reset. I borrowed a Belkin draft router form work, had Verizon help set it up and found that it also had problems I would have to rest modem or router every day or so. I bought a trendnet router (as I had to return the other) and set that up too. It was good for a couple of days but now either it or the modem needs resetting every day. Anybody got any ideas? I've checked the wires and made sure everything is filtered. I can't get Verizon to give me actual settings for the router aside from using PPPoe so I'm not sure if I'm missing something. Any ideas would be great.

Thanks in advance!!!

Brian

I've swapped out the ethernet cables. Verizon had me do this complicated "procedure" wher i had to move cable ends and etc in stead of just saying "can you swap out the cables" I was kind of funny. I wish I had recorded some of the tech support calls. Both the router and modem are plugged into a ups. I've also got the DSL running through the ups before it gets to the modem.
It's a PPPoe setup

Or better yet firmware upgrade on your router? Upgrade to latest & greatest firmware from linksys.

I put tomato firmware on my linksys. Since I have done this it has been rock-solid stable.

You can also try DD-WRT Text

Hmm
I did update the linksys but that didn't help. I'm now using a brand new trendnet. I guess I should check thwat firmware. I think Verizon checked the modem firmware while I was on with their tech support...

update in case anyone was curious...
I replaced a DSL filter and telephone wire on a cordless phoen that would occasionally put a "line busy" message up even though the phone was not in use. I also removed a splitter in the telephone line to the dsl modem even tohugh the split section had a filter. This seems to make a world of difference. I still lose the dsl but now it's like once a week and when I look at the router log it says "manual hangup" even though the router is set to always stay connected. I think If I can figure this out it will be quite reliable.
