Verizon DSL (768/128) vs. Cox Cable Modem (512/256)?

I currently have Verizon DSL (768/128) and am wondering if there would be any noticeable difference (sluggishness, prolonged downloads) if I switched to Cox Cable Modem (512/256).

Slightly slower download speed (768 vs. 512, but double upload speed), and one is dsl and the other is cable modem.

Your download would be reduced from 70KB/sec. to 50KB/sec.

Depending on your surfing Habits either there would be No difference or the cable would feel slightly sluggish.

Typically just general web-browsing and video clips like from CNBC or audio streams like radio stations or downloading podcasts via iTunes.

The download of the stearms would be slower with the Cable service.

However if you save alot and you do not mind few more seconds go for it.

Any difference in latency (instantaneous responsiveness) between cable and dsl (and 768 vs. 512 download speeds)?

512/256 Cable modem is $15/month, while 1.5/256 cable is $27/month. I can't get dsl, as this is a Verizon FIOS area (currently I've got Verizon 768/128 DSL, so that's my baseline)

mshan, both ADSL and cable tend to have market-specific capacity limitations. That is to say, maybe the ADSL slows down sometimes, maybe it doesn't. Maybe the cable slows down sometimes, maybe it doesn't. Your best bet would be to overlap the services for a month and try them both and see. You can typically talk the cable companies into a free trial month or two in order to do just this.

For low-end consumer services, the advertised speed numbers are only a rough guideline, not even remotely a commitment on the ISP's part.

I have upgraded from Verizon DSL 768/128 to 3.0/768 I noticed some increase speed during downloading. You can get more speed if you are not far from central office (less than 20,000 feet) I am about 1200 feet from CO.
