Verizon contracts?

Is it still possible to start a new plan, switching from an old family plan to a new plan on Verizon, but maintain subsidies? I know they currently offer The Verizon Plan... but they used to offer the More Everything plan that, correct me if I'm wrong, did still have subsidies, yes? But they offered the line discounts if you didn't use the subsidy or reached the end of the contract.

I'm trying to set my parents up with a plan that finally has unlimited voice and text, as right now it is a shared 700 minute plan and text packages are paid separately. My dad still uses a regular flip phone, but I figure a cheaper smart phone will do him good.

I can't remember what the More Everything plan cost though with subsidies, so it may be a moot point. And so far in my calculations for monthly prices, I haven't factored in any down payments for the monthly phone payments so that could help.

One last question: does the Employer Discounts only apply to the shared data package price? I see the 6GB $60/month turns into $48/month, but don't see any discounts applying to anything else when trying to shop for the plan.

Background:

Two events have made it likely that I will finally remove myself from a family plan shared with my parents.

1. I have a new job that is offering to either give me a work phone and thus carry around a second phone, or will pay for my phone. I carried around two phones previously... I don't think I really care to do it again.
2. Verizon has finally gone and done it: I once said that Verizon could only pry my unlimited data plan from my cold dead fingers, but they figured out how to get around that by raising the price of the grandfathered unlimited plans to $50 from $30 per month.

Oh hell no. I don't need unlimited that bad, as during an average month even with music streaming in my car, I don't routinely break 5GB, often not topping 3GB. And since work has an astounding amount of data on their plan (80GB for 10 or so people, they rarely ever use half I've been told), I can have room for the rare times... mostly when I am at field training for a few weeks without access to a network for my laptop, or just to waste time.

Call Verizon customer service. They don't want to lose a customer & will do almost anything to keep a customer.
I got them to reinstate my udp with a new number after porting my current number to Cricket. I told them I wanted to give the line to my son in college. They said as long as I wanted to stay on Verizon, no problem. I am actually going to sell my udp for $475. Already have a buyer lined up.

the employee discounts typically apply only to the data bucket (eg $100 for 10GB, discounted 20% to $80) and not the per-line access fees ($20/smartphone line)...

(some employee discounts do apply to the per-line access fees, but are rare)

go get a moto x pure ($400) or something cheaper (last-gen for under $300)

really, no reason to go top of line, especially when there aren't any subsidies

Well, it appears Verizon does not sell the Moto X Pure or any of the 3rd gen (and it might be too big for my folks anyway) in store, which means they would have to pay full retail up front instead of making monthly payments, which at 0% APR is a nice feature.

I'm leaning toward the not quite top of the line (or last gen), particularly the Moto X 2nd Gen or one of the last Droids from Moto, to help keep the overall phone price down for them. I'll have to see what they are comfortable with paying up front, be it a full retail price or as a down payment to lower the monthly cost.

You can order the moto x pure from motorola and have it work on verizon.
Pretty sure motorola offers 0% financing through their website.

FWIW, I picked up a Motorola Droid Turbo from Verizon. I was able to put it on the payment plan. It's a pretty nice phone.

If you get subsidy (contract), isn't the line access fee higher than $20 ? Last time it use to be $40.
