Verizon ADSL2+ Modem Question

OK, so now that Verizon DSL is only $14.95/month now for 768k/128k, so figured I'd get it for a backup connection... but what Verizon sends you is a Westell Versalink Router. I wanted just a dumb old "modem" (bridge) so I could plug it into my own dual wan router. Called Verizon and they are dumb as dumb can be. They told me I could even use my old Fujitsu Speedport (that didn't work of course). Anyways, I was searching for some other models and ran across a Westport 6100 which I can't tell if it's doing it's own NAT thing and also found a D-Link DSL-322T which seems to be out of stock everywhere + no mention of it on D-Link's website so I can't check it's detailed tech specs. What's a good ADSL2+ modem to use if one wants to use their own router?

You can turn off the DHCP (i.e Router) functions of the Westell Router - you just need to get the manual. I believe its called "bypass" mode on the Versalinks, but not sure.

You can turn off the NAT by putting the router in its bridge mode. The problem is every modem manufacturer calls its bridge mode differently. I believe 2wire calls it DMZ+ and a I had modem with a Conexant Virata chipset where it was called ZIPB. Unfortunately I dont know what Westell calls it but Im sure you can find that info @ www.dslreports.com. Check out the FAQs and/or forums.

Yeah, digging around in the settings and it seems to be in "Private LAN" mode. When you try to switch to "Public LAN" mode then it says you need a Static IP provided by your ISP.
