I experience CONSTANT disconnections and terrible service.

(One guy once put me on hold for at least 30min when i asked to ask to his supervisor. He somehow pressed a button on the phone that let me hear what he was saying, "I'm just waiting for this loser to hang up then we can go eat lunch")

Not bad service, but its outsourced. I had to call support several times to get a guy who spoke non-halting english. My connection has been really eratic. It will be strong for a month, and then it will disconnect ~10 min for about a week or two, and then it will be strong again. Of course, my phone lines are 20+ years old, and I am out of range of the box.

I had them for a while, worked pretty well until I started getting disconnections whenever I picked up my phone or got a call. Turns out it was an issue at the pole outside my house, but they wouldn't come do anything about it in the middle of February since it was all frozen over, and I was the only one on my street complaining.

I just switched to Adelphia and Vonage and never looked back.

ive been with adelphia since they offered cable(mar '99 here) and can count the days offline on two hands.
i guess you get what you pay for :(
id save about $20 per month on internet...and to be honest i dont use the bandwidth like i use to(which is why i was consdering the switch in the 1st place)

I had problems right at first, I raised "holy hell" and the problems somehow fixed themselves... They claimed they didn't do anything... uh yeah ok.

I have Verizon Biz DSL, 3M/768K with a static IP. Only been down twice in 1.5 years, and given the time of the outage, it seemed scheduled.

My only complaint is that they won't let you set the DNS reverse lookup for your IP. My IP reverse looks up to bdsl.x.x.x.x.gte.net, not host.mydomain.org.

Same here... Optimum costs $50/mo, while DSL is only $30. Plus they're offering another $5/month discount if you combine your home, wireless, and DSL into 1 bill. I almost called today, but seeing the poll made me nervous.:(

I paid $60/mth for Verizon's Freedom package for phone, and $40/mth for their higher end DSL (at the time) 1.5/768. Worked great, cost about $100/mth, plus I had DishNetwork which was about $40/mth for the package I was on.

Now I have Adelphia which is about $100/mth for Digital Bronze with one receiver, and their 4/384 service. Vonage costs me $25/mth, so I save about $15/mth in all, but I have TV in all my rooms (not just 2 like before) and my download is a bit faster, so my ping has dropped for most stuff.

I've been using Verizon DSL for 5 yeras already, basically ever since it first came out. They were great in the first two years, when it cost 39.95. I never got a single disconnect and never had to trouble shoot. As time progress and they started introducing the 29.95 packet, I see more frequent disc. Sometime the bandiwth gets shorten dramatically, around 40k-128K( 56k speeds to ISDN). On average nowaday I get disconnect about 1 or twice a month and experience 3 to 4 times of slow down a month also. I think they need to upgrade the lines because obviouslly with the low price there's an overload. I live in NYC and everyone I know uses it. I look forward to see their FIOS available because fiber optics are just better than traditional phone line. Overall, if you live near a verizon tower you will be ok. If you have the money go with Optimum Online.

Verizon has been mostly stable with me, I live in a fairly high-class suburban area, so a lot of the equipment around here stays upgraded frequently. I don't experience disconnections very often at all, if any, usually at most for a minute or two. A lot of DSL stability (I'm sure you know this -- but saying just for the sake of it) depends on your distance from the CNCC (central network command center), the quality of your lines, and other various factors, if you want to try and make an effort in finding out what exactly your problem is, contact support, and have them connect you with a NOC engineer who can better assist you, as support is only really there to assist the average in-need support caller, (ones who don't know how to connect, or don't know how to flush their dns or IP management).

I've had my Verizon DSL for about 3 weeks now and haven't had a single issue. It's the 3/768 deal for $30.

I just returned from a 3-year stint in a remote location and ANYTHING is better than Direcway at $90 - constantly going out, bandwidth limitations, weather considerations, etc.
