VeriSign to sell Network Solutions

Network Solutions has to be one of the worst registrant companies there are. Why anyone would use them is beyond me. They're are a nightmare to deal with.

Our company has been using them for years. We've bought hundreds of domain names through them for our clients. We've never had any significant problem with them.

Odd, because they wouldn't transfer a domain for a client once and held on it for 6 months (this was for a fairly large company who had the name rights to a domain, so the other owner gave back the name). We went to file a law suit in NJ (where their corporate is) and were told by two different lawyers that it was completely useless. They both said there were so many current cases against NS that it'd take years and a good bit of money to fight it, that it was pointless. They are notorious for just sitting on their asses and taking their sweet time to doing things and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. They used to own ALL domains and used to really dick people over.

I also had another problem with them along the same lines, but this was for changing the dns entries and where the domain name pointed. Long story also.

Buying domains from them is easy. Actually maintaining them, moving them to different providers, changing owners....it's a completely different story

Maybe we've just been really lucky, but pretty much every web admin I know personally uses them and I've never heard any major complaints outside the occasional headache. I'm certainly not trying to be an apologist for them (I was particularly ticked off with the hijacked traffic gimmick a few weeks ago) but it also stands to reason that the biggest companies are almost always going to have the most complaints due to the sheer number of customers they have. We've moved transferred dozens of names to and from various 3rd party registrars and transferred through various owners with them without any major problems. Out of all that time, we've only had to deal with one major copyright/name rights issue and that took some time (most of it having very little to do with NetSol), but that was already expected. Day-to-day maintenance has been fine thus far.
