Verbatim (Rebadged Asus 5224a) isn't burning...or is it? Can anyone help me out

Okay hi, here is my problem:

I built a computer for my friend and we got in on that Bestbuy deal for the Verbatims for 14.99 - my friend got an Asus so was content with that (I like Asus, my mobo is a A7n8x)

Now we installed windows and went and solved other problems that usually arise with a new built pc. Now we discovered that Nero(the one that comes bundled) AND Easy CD Creator 6 (I gave him my copy after we couldn't get Nero to recognize the cd) will NOT burn...Nero can create an image...but the only burner it sees is its own.


Now it gets weird: I also have Alochol 120% for those CDs with crazy copy protection and on his computer he can do a CD to CD copy just fine! Huh? EZ CD Creator 6 and Nero will not work or even acknowledge his drives exist while Alcohol will work immediately.

Is there something wrong? I installed ASPI drivers because I remember windows does not come with them...no luck

Here is my friend's setup:

EPOX 8RDA+ (running latest Bios. Both bioses experienced this problem)
1x512 megabytes pc3200 HYPER X Ram
120GIG WD SE
XFX Geforce4TI4200 VIVO
Verbatim (Asus) 5224a
16X Liteon

Any help is greatly appreciated....We tried to update to the latest firmware too but the program we downloaded on Asus's site won't recognize the burner!

He just rebooted the computer:


format HDD and installed win2ksp2
then we winstalled the nvidia drivers
then we installed forceaspi1.7
then we installed the videocard drivers
then we installed nero

still nero doesn't see the farking burner....any idea?
