Hi.

Not sure where this belongs but it's storage, and I can't find a better forum for it.

So, I am running out of blank Verbatim DVD Rs.....my RWs last forever, of course.

I think my last spindle was better Verbatim than the Life series, but the Life series blanks are so affordable:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...akeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en

Is there any reason I should not get these?

I have, so far, never once had a problem with even one Verbatim blank, either CDs or DVDs.

Thanks!

I bought a 100 spindle of them (Radioshack), they were the worst discs I've used, with at least a dozen defects. I'll never buy Verbatim again.
I have since bought 2 of the Rosewill 100 spindles and 0 defects so far after 150 or so used. They're $16.99 w/free shipping and a FREE Rosewill 10ft HDMI cable! :)

I have Verbatim, Memorex, Sony, and Maxell discs. They are ALL made by CMC Magnetics. None of the companies actually make their own discs except Taiyo Yuden.

I just make sure they are made in Taiwan, not China. The Chinese made discs I have used were horrible. The Verbatim Life discs are made in China.

I've had no issues with any Japan or Taiwanese discs, although discs made in Japan are getting harder to find, Taiyo Yuden is about the only one left.

OMG! First, I learned early on to choose Verbatim; everything I read online confirmed that.....and, so far, never had problem one with any of them! Not one bad burn!

but, I am not sure which Verbatims re the DVD-Rs I get, and those few remaining do not tell me which they are, those few remaining on my existing spindle do not say.

Please do not give up on Verbatim media!!!!! I speak from experience. Maybe you just got an atypically defective lot?

Ahah! The ones I was about to buy are made in China and those are the ones to avoid! I had no clue.

See this? What I have been saying all along: the newer, the crummier!!!!

Now I must figure out how to determine where a given spindle is made.

Sigh.

I dunno.....what do we make of this?

http://www.productfrom.com/company/68/

Cept for the color ones I never heard of made in India....says all are made in Taiwan or China.

I never used to have to even think about this before.

Hold on, I narrowed the search and one kind is made in the UAE!

http://www.productfrom.com/company/68/184/0,0,0/1/

What's the difference between made in Taiwan and made in China? Is there any?

See, the second the lowlifes pitched outsourcing, I told everyone; beginning of The End, fight this!!!!

Just found THIS:

http://club.myce.com/f33/verbatim-made-china-they-any-good-247556/

Confirms what U said re those made in Japan under the Verbatim name!

I hate having to learn about this; I never had to before.

Edit: And just found THIS:

http://club.myce.com/f33/any-difference-between-mitsubishi-verbatim-made-singapore-vs-taiwan-226508/

It seems I should get a spindle made in Taiwan.

Again, I never had to think about this before.

Please, Burpo....do not throw the whole Verbatim baby out cause it seems you got a bad batch and that made the bathwater dirty.

When I said I have used Verbatim all my life and not once had one issue....I meant it!!!! From like 5 computers ago!

I just looked in my spindles drawer and see I have two half full spindles of Memorex CD-Rs.....one litescribe from when I was in my, O! I need a litescribe drive, wut fun!!! phase.....which I bought and got bored with in two days.

But other than those.....I meant what I posted re Verbatims!

Okay!

See this! There is a part showing like cellular structure, but it would not paste. AZO vs Cyanine.....I have no clue what that is either.

AZO and Cyanine are not the same. AZO seems to be stronger against heat and UV tha Cyanine but some writers and players do not like them. So you cant say which is better.
Attached are pics of the structures of the different dyes.
the upper left one is Cyanine and upper right one is Phtalo. The lower one is AZO.

PS. AZO is a much deeper blue than Cyanine If you look ata Cyanine and AZO discs you can see a difference.

What does it mean? Apart from more impervious to heat and rays.

K.....maybe my burner will not like them; maybe my player or those of the people I will give things to I burn onto them might not.....but, for ten dollars don't U think it was worth finding out?

Wait!!!!!!

I just found THIS!!!!!!!

If you must purchase 16x discs in a retail store the Verbatim AZOseries are the ones to buy. Avoid the Life seriesthat are inferior to the AZO series. The AZO logo is easy to spot on the spindle wrapper and the insert at the top of the spindle.

See that? Vendor says they have one spindle left.....someone should buy that!

I think the life series is inferior compared to the datalife plus label (which is mcc).
I normally see the dvd+r with the purple plastic packaging with azo, not the white spindle "life series".

Edit-
There is a "value series" for +r media with the white packaging as well which is inferior in quality.

Yes!! On all counts! I only just learned all that in this thread while delving! Which is one reason I got those no money AZOs!

It's all about learning every second....esp when you don know that's necessary in what u think is a simple thing.

But how those people in Korea can make any money on that spindle of those AZOs....ten dollars with shipping? I can not imagine. Maybe they R defective. But come on....it was worth finding out!

Update: only just now got email saying Verbatim AZOs shipped....and, with a tracking number. They are very far away.....but increasingly, I feel getting this almost no money spindle was a good decision.

Better late than never final report!

Sorry, I should have done this when they arrived, which was almost immediately...and, in an Amazon carton!!!! Wut? Said on ebay they were coming from Asia.

Anyhoooo......they are REAL DEAL, labelled, high end Verbatims, not the low end Life ones! Identical in every way (same 16X)to those I got last time (and, the time before), but this spindle, for waaaay less money. FIFTY.....for total TEN DOLLARS including shipping.

Color me thrilled and green like Kermit.

Only used one to test, burned a docu....perfect as always.

Now, I wish I had gotten that second spindle too.... But, I got paranoid in this thread.

As said above, only use the AZO's. The life series are made by mcc which equals burn once, use once, then toss.

U were right, and it was huge I learned that....cause I almost got the inferior ones! But, had I not let Burpo's negativity impact me in this thread, I would have gotten BOTH spindles of these AZOs the vendor offered, not just the one! I mean it, ten dollars including shipping for 50? Awesome!

But I also learned to not be impacted by such negativity, so that was worth a lot.

These AZOs are PERFECT.:D And, identical to those I have bought in the past,
