Verbatim azo CD-R's.. WTF?

Jerboy

Banned
I always had the impression that Verbatim's patented azo recording layer was deep blue and I thought all DataLifePlus used azo.

A friend burned me something on a disc that has "Verbatim DataLifePlus" imprinted on its hub and the disc doesn't look like azo to me. It's 650MB so I'm guessing he used a left over. Did Verbatim make DataLife Plus series in something other than azo?

do you think that thing's azo?

The deep blue disc is a recent 16x rated 80min DataLife Plus disc. The other one is the questionable media and the third disc is the industry standard Taiyo Yuden cyanine disc.

edit: link fixed. One extra space in the link caused it. I'm sure you guys were thinking "what the hell is this album index for?".

hey, I got some 80 min Verbatim's that has a green bottom, and I got some others (74 min) that are blue bottom. I guess they decided to make them green.

<< I guess they decided to make them greeb. >>

😀
BTW Jerboy, how does one get a PIC on your webpage?

crap.. broken link.. The unintended space between the end of the URL and /l brackets cause people to go into my albums index instead of the album I intended to show.

anyways linky fixed. ( I hate it when my links don't work 😱)

How did those CD pics got on my webpage? I scanned them and put them up.

Are they both DataLife Plus'? DataLife Plus and ValuLife Plus are completely different products.

<< Honestly, why do you care? 🙁 >>

I was just about to ask the same thing 🙂

What does it matter? Does azo's last longer or something..?

Jerboy, the "history" folder is a dangerous thing. Is you AT PICS website private, or can anyone join?

As matter of fact, it does. Leave your cyanine disc in direct sunlight and its adios in two days. Verbatim azo discs withstand such condition for months. This isn't very important for data discs that spends its life in a file cabinet, but it is very important for copies of music CD's you make to listen in your car. They must withstand extreme tempeature its subjected to in a car and ocassional mistakes of leaving them on dash.

history folder.. what are you talking about?

Anyone can be listed in my AT pics page. Just send me your pic along with your screen name and I'd add them. The only things I ask are your face must be clearly visible in the pic and there is to be no profane commentary in your pic.

You heard of a cd-folder? I put my cd's in that until I get sick and through em out anyway. 🙁

d00d, get out more, cd-r's are cheap. 😀

I only use premium quality CD's 😀 😀 I won't use CD-R's made by anyone, but Mitsubishi Chemicals, Mitsui, Taiyo Yuden or Kodak except for some music I won't listen to it for more than a few times.

Those el-cheapo CD's are for cheapskates and music CD's one doesn't use often.

Jerboy, the ones I have are DataLife Plus.

ATIP: 97m 34s 22f
Disc Manufacturer: Mitsubishi Chemicals Corp.
Reflective layer: Dye (Long strategy; e.g. Cyanine, Azo etc.)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
nominal Capacity: 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f / LBA: 359849)

By the way, if you want some cheap Verbatim CDRs, go to CompUSA. They have these cheap looking 20 pack CDRs that are in fact Verbatim. Just take a look at the bottom of the CD.

Where is it made and what does the bottom look like?

Don't know where it's made. Like I said, the packaging is incredibly cheap but they are good CDRs. It's says Verbatim Data Life Plus in the plastic area near the center of the disc. The bottom is a very dark blue and the top has a white coating. I got 3 packs for $3 each when they had a sale several weeks ago.

Thanks for the info Jerboy 🙂

<< At least my TDK 80's are Phthalocyanine

This concludes my big word post of the day
>>

Just because they're phthalocyanine doesn't make it better than cyanine. It will be more tolerant of extreme conditions, but quality may be lower. Low quality discs are often very week and peels very easily, has readability problems.

I hate my phthalocyanine TDK 80min Made in Taiwan by Ritek and they are only good for non-important audio stuff IMO. They burn fine at 16x without a coaster and appears fine until you try to play it back on cheapo CD-ROM drive, the typical 48x or 52x drives found at many computer shops. My Pine 44x and friend's CD-ROM drive slows down to 4x or 8x when reading back Ritek made TDK phthalocyanine discs. All the drives reads back at full speed when I throw them Made in Japan Taiyo Yuden cyanineCD's, so go figure...

:😛 i burn tdk 80ritek at 24x, read from pioneer dvd at fullspeed😛

bingo, if its so mission critical i'll just keep two copies or buy some really damn good discs, but how many would you need😛 if the cheap discs only last 15 years instead of 25, in 10 years there'll probably be new media with enough capacity to copy your damn spindle onto one disc or whatever. cd's are so small. are you really gonna watch your pixelated low res porn on cd in 10 years when beautiful hddvd will be out? 🙂
