Verbatim 48x12x48x CD-RW only writes at 24x?

Got this Verbatim drive fr. OfficeMax, box saids 48x12x48x, but on the CD-RW front panel,
it saids 48x24x48x.

Installed the Nero that came w/ it, max speed Nero would let me burn at is only 24x.

Tried uninstalling Nero & installing the latest download fr. web, still only lets me burn at 24x.

It's not my media, I have some Imation CD-Rs that I've burned at 48x on a previous Cendyne 48x burner.

Any ideas what's going on? System is win2k Professional on Athlon 1.2 Ghz.

Hmmm some of the Burners only do 24X max for audio burns, other then that is your DMA enabled and do you have the latest firmware?

If you have SMARTBURN enabled, it will burn at the CD-R's rated speed. If the Imation CD-R is 24x, it will burn the CD at 24x. Also, you can't burn CD-RW's faster than the drive is able to. 🙂 Hope this helps.

OK, turned out my media (Imation) was only rated at 24x, but I've been able to burn it at 32x & 48x on a Cendyne drive
on another computer.

Enabled DMA, didn't help. Smartburn is enabled.

I was able to get it to at least "detect" another CD-R media so that at least 32x record speed is possible.
No luck in getting it up there to 48x record speed as advertised...

Try disabling SMARTBURN and seeing if you can hit the 48x. The other computer might have SMARTBURN disabled or something.

You can but is risky, the media may not work in the long run. sure it will read ok for a day or 2 but after that you will lose whatever you backed up to it and you will regret just to save 30sec or 1 min 🙁
