Computer researcher Don Mitchell used original digital data from two Soviet Venera probes that landed in 1975.

His reprocessed and recalibrated images provide a much clearer view of the Venusian surface which is hotter even than the inside of a household oven.

Always wondered where all the talk about venus went. I remember ppl saying it was basically another earth, but too close to the sun to sustain any type of life that we know about.

The posters at slashdot makes a great point. Imagine all the possibilities a 100+ billion space program could generate. Instead, the war is burning money that could be used for so many things. This applies to other countries as well I believe. The world in general should be exploring/learning/understanding our own world & others, so that we might discover more about who & what we are, let alone, how to save ourselves.
