Venting - I hate Best Buy

First, is there a forum where one can go and complain about Best Buy?

1. I bought a big screen TV there a little over a year ago and id the long term warranty due to the uniqueness of the TV. It's an LCD and has those expensive bulbs. The bulb has gone out and I cannot find my receipt. I called BB a couple of weeks ago and the customer service rep could not help me, but took down my info. Today another customer rep says no problem and gets me with the credit department and they find my invoice. I call back to Cust. Serv. to schedule service. It will now be 2 weeks before anyone can even come and look at the TV, much less fix it. This really sucks.

2. Earlier this year I went to China and other parts of the world. While gone, a couple of rebate checks come to my house. They get misplaced by the house sitter and now that I find them they have expired. The cust. serv. rep. at the store said call 1-800- BB.

As I left the store I was asked to fill out a survey. You can bet BB got some choice comments.

Did I say that I hate Best Buy. They should be called Best Cry.

It must be embarrasing to tell people you work at BB.

No, not Best Cry, that's why it's called Best Bait.

Just get the money from the house sitter, the "you break it you buy it." theory can be applied here in a different way.

1. You should always keep receipts, paperwork of expensive or items that have warranties in a safe place. You are lucky they are going to do the work at all, they could have given you the cold shoulder.

2. It isn't their fault you missplaced the rebates.

This rant sucks!

1. I've never really understood why Best Buy asks for the original receipt for warranty work, since warranty information is logged in their systems. That's a minor quibble though. Regarding the speed of warranty service - that's the real world for you. Realistically you can expect about that kind of speed of service for your unit, but at least you're covered for all costs.

2. This has little to do with Best Buy and a lot more to do with the incompetence of your housesitter. Rebates suck, but we all know the ground rules on them; one of those rules is they're not available forever.

Yes, it was semi-embarassing to say that I used to work at Best Buy. :p

As far as getting your TV fixed, I think that Best Buy doesn't fix it themselves, the find an authorized service center for your TV, call them and let them do it (that's what they did with my TV).

And just to make you feel better you can read all about my fun experience with my TV repairs: Text

but it all worked out in the end: Text

That's understable actually, those LCD big screens tv are very new and i'm sure there are few technicians who know how to service them. Did they tell you that somebody will only come to look at the tv, and not 'much less fix it'?

I don't see what the problem here is. If anybody you should be bitching at, it's your house sitter. There's an expiration date on the rebates for a purpose.

- Unfortunately, your rebate checks expired. However, you can't blame anyone but yourself.

- As a practice, any receipt greater than $1,000 gets laminated. Paying to get this done is well worth the cost.

- But, I will agree with you that Best Buy does suck -- no denying that. :(

Should have got it from CC. Had a prob with my TV, one simple phone call and the repairman was at my house that week. No receipt needed. I'm planning on moving and the guy said to give him a call on his Nextel and he will come and tweak it after its in my new place. Reasons like that is why CC gets more of my buisness now.

Does the BB extended warranty cover a new bulb? or did the sales kid just tell you it did?

I have to agree with the others. It's not Best Buy's fault that your housesitter was careless and misplaced the rebate checks. You need to do a better job screening potential housesitters next time. Similarly, it's not the store's fault that you don't keep your important receipts in a safe place like a file cabinet, both sides covered with clear packing tape to protect them from spills. Just be glad the BB credit department guys were willing to work with you to find a copy of your invoice.

Don't get me wrong, I'm by no means a fan of Best Buy but your two complaints are simply not fair.

I do agree with everyone above about my first post up top. Yes, it is my fault that I cannot locate the receipt, and Yes it is my fault that rebate checks were misplaced. I easily accept responsibility for that. However, I could go on for days about the attitudes and idiots at BB. Particularly the one I go to.

And yes, I have kicked myself several times for not buying the TV at CC. CC has been outstanding at any issues I have ever had with anything bought there.

It's the crappy attitude I get from people at BB, the dumb sales people, the lazy SOB's that want help a pregnant woman carry something to her car, the people on the phone that don't want to help, etc.

As an example: Just 2 weeks ago I buy an ATI 9800 video board on-line with in-store pickup. I get the email that says to go pick it up. I take all my emails to BB. They say they have no confirmation and cannot give me the video board because the person that runs their computer is not there that day. They say that I can go over and buy one of the 8 on the shelf, and then come back tommorrow and cancel the order that is in the system. I ask them why they cannot just give me one that is on the shelf, and they say it is not their policy to do that. Hmmmm, I've paid for the item, I have an email saying to come to the store and get it, and the store wants me to pay again. This took an hour to sort out by the store manager and I still had to pay for the video board, but got a $25 gift card. I had to have the video board because my son was going to college late that afternoon and the board was going in his computer.

Let's see they charged me $3500 twice on my credit card for a $350 item. Took 3 trips to sort that one out.

There are more.

Obviously, most of you have not had issues like I have had with BB. I have Office Max, BB, CUSA, and CC all within 1/2 mile of each other, and 2 miles from my home. I do business with all of them, but have only had issues with BB. I have been in alot of BB's around the country and the one in Downers Grove, IL is the worst looking and has the worst acting people of any. It is probably one of their higher grossing stores since it is usually packed.

Agreed. You're whining a bit. Be a man! The rebates are your problem, not theirs. The TV? Well, it's too bad it will take that long. You should be annoyed but dude to say you hate Best Buy because of it? Oy!

Anyhow, good luck with the repair!
