OK, I just came back from LA for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers national conference. Numerous things in LA (like the mass transit system, and the numerous homeless people that wouldn't stop asking us for money for alcohol), plus the lack of sleep (11:49 pm PST flight, got back to Detroit at 8:50 EST), so two hours since Friday, have contributed to my pissy mood. My roomate is an internet porn addict. I installed some filtering software, but it pissed me off, b/c I'd have to log into it as the aadmin just to check out the forums, and it became uninstalled. It wasnt keeping him from the porno sites anyway, because being free, it wasnt updated often, and when I saw a new site he had found, I'd report it, to no avail). I come back here, check my mail, and fire up IE to check out the forums. Well, guess what my start page has changed to? Oh, it's the free pics page at kara's xxx playground.....I'm not going to say I've never looked at internet pr0n, but I've always found it disgusting, and as a result, avoided it. Not to mention the fact that he likes to download those dialer programs, which never work b/c my modem isnt plugged into the wall (Thank God). I shudder at the thought of what spyware those damn things install when you run them....Needless to say, we're going to have a talk today. I'm really pissed off now, so I'm going to go to class and collect my thoughts (that'll help keep me awake anyway) and have a little talk with him when I come back.

You know what the REALLY ironic thing is? He's SUPER religious, and his friends are ALL the same way. I know the girls he associates with would be repulsed by his surfing habits. But I'm a nice guy, so it'll just be a talk between us two...I mean, he won't even say f***, but has no problem saying "lovely human" or "queer." ::Sigh::

Are you running W2K? Change permissions so he can't install anything. Then lock the double click setting on the mouse to "Small Monkey on Speed" eventually he'll just give up.

It all goes back to me being a nice guy. At first, it was just for him to type up papers, and surfing was to be done elsewhere....but as you can see, that didn't happen. He uses this more then I do...

man what an ahole, if you are running win2k do what windogg said, if you are running win98se use poledit and do not allow programs to be install and i think you can disable any program from running.

I have Win2k on here as well, but he never boots into it (besides, I have some trouble getting TFC to work well in Win2k) What is this poledit program you speak of? Is it in the PowerToys, or is it a setting in the users control panel. I tried to setup a profile for him as a test before, but I wasn't able to nail it down as well as I could with Win2k.

poledit is one of those administrator tools on the windows cd which lets you put the computer in lockdown mode (yeah, let the mofo try to click the start button...muahahaha).
