Venice vs. Prescott

Which is faster, a Venice 3000+ overclocked to 2.6 GHz or a Pentium 4 at 4 GHz?

Dont ask why, just vote lol

Well my X2 @2.618 is faster than a vapo chilled Prescott at 4.4ghz, so I would have to say the 2.6 venice will be faster than the 4ghz P4 in most everything.

EDIT: for video encoding or other SMP aware programs the P4 might still have an advantage from hyperthreading.

Venice @ 2.6gHz definitely smokes P4 @ 4Ghz + Venice has less heat
And I think Venice is cheaper considering the RAM + MB + CPU

However why not go dual core?

Hmm. I'm not sure why anyone would say an Athlon @ 2.6 beats a Pentium @ 4.0. Heat has nothing to do with it; anyway, I'm not sure a maxed-out Venice would be much cooler than a Prescott.

Here's a test showing a P4 570J (3.8 GHz) smoking an FX-55 (2.6 GHz and 1MB L2). A P4 overclocked to 4 GHz would certainly overcome a 2.6 GHz Athlon with 512KB L2.

Venice has my vote.

I only count 3. Memory latency is better lower. And the stock Venice at 1.8 beats that 570 on 3 test, and the OC;ed Venice beats the 570 most of the time.

Yeah... I don't see any "smoking" of the FX-55 in any way on those tests... on not every test is the higher bar better there buddy...

The Movie Maker and LAME tests, which are most important to me personally, have the Prescott firmly in the lead. If gaming is your thing, by all means go for the Venice.

Also remember that the test I cited pits a 3.8 GHz Prescott against a 2.6 GHz San Diego, not a 4.0 GHz Prescott against a 2.6 GHz Venice.

a dual core faster than a single core, huh? hmm..odd...

that made very little logical sense....
