Venice Temp readings

HI guys. Just got my venice yesterday. I set it up and did some light gaming on it and was really impressed with the temperature of the CPU. It sits idle @ 32C Zalman 7000-ALCU @ 1500 RPM and a 120MM exhaust fan in the rear @ 1000 RPM. This is in an antec Sonata case. I never got over 40C @ load (havent primed it yet) but it seems my MSI mobo is reading the temps on the low side. Allthough my heatsink is not warm at all to the touch.. Have you guys heard anything about odd temp readings on Venice CPUs in regards to MSI mobos or any mobo for that matter? I just cant believe the cpu actually is running that cool.

I don't know how accurate or inaccurate it is... but my Venice @ 2.6 GHz on 1.5 volts is running 34C on my Neo2 Platinum (BIOS 1.8) right now according to Core Center. My heatsink doesn't feel very warm to the touch either... my Raptor feels warmer.

Thats cool. I'm gonna see the max I get on stock core and stick with that. I'm hoping for at least 2.4 Ghz. I try not to set my goals too high. So If I'm able to get 2.6GHz at stock Vcore I'm a happy Camper! In either case I'd be able to get at least a 3800+ CPU for much less money. Oh the joy of overclocking. Now I just hope my chip is not a bum...

My Venice 3200 @ 2.5 on stock voltage with XP-90c is 32 idle and 41c (According to Core Center) when Prime 95 after a while...and this is in PHX Arizona....I am Completley satisfied with Chip and HSF. By the way guys..Does your Core Cell report NB Fan RPM? Mine says 'Slow' althogh in BIOS it reads 74-7500. Kinda of weird MSI BIO shows speen yet thier windows application Core cell doesn't show it. Same with Processor fan speed shows as Zero but 3k in Bios...

I dunno, I have the 1.8 bios for the Neo2 Plat, and I'm on watercooling. Temps seem low; I get about 24 idle, ~32 load. But the weird part is, right after I set up my WC I was getting like 36/45 on the 1.4 bios, and when I updated apparently they "fixed temp problems" according to their website and now I'm getting insanely low temps. Running 2.4ghz right now on stock voltage.

Yup. My corecell does the same thing. Hopefully they will update that soon.

I'm still very happy with my venice. My computer somehow rebooted now last night. Dont know why. If it happens again for some unknown reason I have to check if the temp readings really are THAT innaccurate. Havent really had time to test it yet either ) I sooo want to) Almost done sorting out all data fromt he last comp. Hopefully I'll be done today (I'll screw sorting the 4000 unsorted MP3s today :p) I'll get back to you guys when I start overclocking and priming.

overclock now and get stable. U dont wanna have to format because of disk errors and re-install all your songs a 3rd time

No worries. I'll plug out the PATA drive and the SATA drives are not an a shared PCI bus anyway so thats no worry.

That may actually be on the high side...
My new Venice 3200 is all stock (HSF, timings, etc...) and I can't get it over 32C no matter what I run!

Forgot to add the rig...
Asus A8N-E
1GB TwinX at 1t
1 80mm fan and a dual fan Antec 2.0 400w PSU

My venice 3200+ on the A8N-E (Thank you AMD & MS!) runs about 38-40c idle, but it is also the proud recepient of 1.55V running 2.5ghz. I also have the big mama zalman w/12cm fan, one 12cm intake and one 12 cm exhaust being controlled by my nifty antec PS with 12 cm fan. All I have are 12 cm fans, except for the darn chipset fan. I am considering unplugging it, though...

I would say that your temps are fine.

Nice to see you on the forums too, Viditor, I thought maybe you only stuck to the news section ;)

For you MSI people, which Bios are you using? Mine seems to report normal temps of 30/42 for the processor.

I'm using 1.8... I think my temps are normal too... 32-34 idle (depending on whether the AC is running or not cause there's a vent right next to the computer) and mid 50's under a heavy load like Prime 95 with the retail heatsink/fan.

Thats what you need- a 12cm chipset fan and a 12cm fan on your memory
BTW how do you cool your drives? :) :) :)

wyrmrider

myvrile- your thermal compound may have squished in better over time- what did you use and how did you apply it?

Mrvile, are you using the 1.8 mod? I believe that is the one where the temp issue is fixed.
