Venice 3200 vcore/temp question

Just put a new venice 3200+ with xp-90 w/AS5 on an epox 9npa+. I am stock right now. I pretty much know the vcore is a bit high, but I wanted soem feedback. My vcore is around 1.5 at stock. Thats high right? What first made me check it, is my temps are around 40C at stock speeds. I should lower the vcore correct? I looked up the specs, says it should be 1.3/1.4. I am going to be overclocking, but I want to work out the bugs and everything to get it nice and make sure everything is working right first.

My next idea, might be reapplying AS5, but I really dont think I did anything wrong in that area. Thanks.

Lower your VCORE to 1.4, and I'm sure you'll see a nice Temp decrease. Hopefully, you didn't overload on the AS5.

lol!

Well I just updated the bios then loaded defaults. That did nothing. Vcore was still at 1.5. So I just manually changed it. I hope 1.4volt is what it should be, because my EPOX 9npa doesnt go lower than that. So it is at 1.38-1.4 now.

AS5: Nah, I mean, Ive applied it before, its not like im a complete noob. I just put a small bb sized amount in center and then put the xp-90 on. Although I have had people tell me its better to spread using your finger and plastic bag. That will be the next thing I try.

weird

thats the first google result i clicked. it looks like more to come.

and another

so clearly a board anomaly though first i heard of it. then again, i have dfi's 😛

Well damn looks like its a known problem. Ok. Im fine then. I got it manualy set so.....I think my dramm voltage is too high as well. Im looking into now. techpowerup says it should be 2.5 default. Mine is at 2.75 and its at the lower 3200 speeds.

I 8> rise.

40 degrees Celcius is not unheard of for idle temps when:

1) you run a higher voltage
2) are not using Cool and Quiet (CnQ) which drops the multiplier and the voltage to lower the temps.

For example:

My X2-4200 is currently idling at an indicated 29 degrees C, with both cores running at 1ghz @ 1.1v. If I disable CnQ both cores run at 2.2ghz @ 1.35v and the idle temps climbs to 35 degrees Celcius. Ambient is unknown, but it is autumn here right now, and cool outside.

Remember: Voltage + speed (ghz) = heat (even at idle). Increase either factor, and the temps will go up.

To reduce the heat:
-get a good cooler: your XP-90 is good (what fan??)
-good TIM: your AS5 is excellent
-good case cooling: ambient temperatures are important. Unless you run phase-change, you always run at a relative level above ambient. As ambient temperatures goes up, so does your CPU temperature.

When overclocking, start at stock voltage and only increase to address stability problems. There's no sense cooking your chip with volts that aren't needed.

Yeah, its not the temps I was concerned about really. I know 40c is pretty close to normal. If it were 50C+, that would be a whole different story. I was just trying to track down the high voltage. And no, I do not run C&Q yet.

I have no idea what my ambient is. Sorta of a moot point, im still formating and installing windows and everything on my new hd's, so the case door is off. Still taking some parts out and installing others. Messing around with cables etc...

🙂

for your ram, i wouldn't be too concerned right now. almost every ram out is good to 2.9v. it would be errorring on you before you burn it at 2.75v.

Yeah, I just lowerd it to 2.5 anyways. Running memtest, everything seems fine now. And ram is a bit cooler. My cpu is around 33-35C now as well.

EDIT: Ok, apparenty my temps are still about the same even with vcore at 1.4 now. Still around 40C while installing windows 2000. So I am going to take a guess and say its my AS5 application maybe. Im gonna try the finger in plastic bag idea.
