Venice 3200+ or 3000+

Hey guys looking to buy a new system have only bought the two raptors so far. Here is what i am thinking about but i am at a loss because people keep telling me i can overclock the venice 3200+ to the same exact speed as a venice 3000+ so should i just go with the 3000? What are the advantages of getting a 3200 if i don't plan to run 1:1 settings?
System

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice

DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Platinum System Memory

Antec NeoPower 480W Power Supply

ANTEC P180 Case

2X WD Raptors

nvidia 6800GT

Thanks for the help

Because you are getting an excellent OCing mobo, i'd go for the 3000+.

If you aren't sure about OCing, you could get the 3200+, but really, you shouldn't have too much trouble getting a 3000+ up to 2.5 Ghz or better.

Water cooling (for the most part) doesnt give you much over high-end air, certainly nothing that is worth the price difference.

Yeah, the main benefit of ater is the noise. You don't need all the loud fans everywhere. With that motherboard, the 3000+ is perfect. The 3200+ and 3000+ will max out around the same level.

It's hard to say what you will max out at...OCing is never a certain thing.

Since the DFI seems to have no trouble with high HTT speeds though, the only thing holding you back will be the CPU itself.

I'd guess you'll get around 2.7 GHz (9*300).
It seems some of the newer Venices aren't getting quite so high though, so it's hard to say.

Hmmm Nope I have to disagree... Sorry... Get the 3200+ If Ure gonne OC that last multi miught enable to go higher or stay cooler and it isnt much of a dif in money.

And Id save some money on those HDDs and get me Hitatchis SATA2 80Gb drives instead. Angry_Games has run benches on both and have fond the SATA2s to be as fast and a lot cheaper...

my 3000+ idles at 38 in a hot room, primes at 48-50, if your getting the dfi board, the 3200 isn't worth the extra 50 bucks

Expect to see at least 2.3GHz with both CPUs. A good CPU can hit +2.7GHz. A 3200 chip may help you stay at DDR333 longer with Value RAM. If you have good RAM, then go with the 3000.

I was wondering this myself. Im torn between Venice 3000+ or 3200+, as well as OCZ Platinum Rev. 2 or simply OCZ Value ram. There is about 50$ between the 3000+ and 3200+ as well as Plat Rev2 and Value. Which of those would be better for 90% Gaming, 10% Apps (Downloads, Web Browsing, very basic apps). And is the stock cooler enough in both case to OC nice enough?

Edit: Getting DFI nForce 4 LANParty Ultra-D Motherboard with 6800GT GPU.

I used to be under the same false impression.

The 3000+ OCs just as well as the 3200+ does.
The difference that's big is the mobo.
If the mobo being used for OCing cannot handle a high HTT, then you won't be able to get the max out of your CPU.
That's why the 3200+ is recommend so much, because you only need a 280 MHz HTT to hit 2.8 GHz.
With a 3000+, you'll be running the HTT @ 311 MHz to hit 2800 MHz.

With a good mobo (like the DFI), a 311 MHz HTT is entirely achievable.

That make sense now?

Completely. Thanks a lot. Now only need to choose the RAM. Also, Im aiming 2.6ghz, 2.8 would be like a dream came true, but 2.6 is entirely satisfying.
