Hi
I am planning to buy a p4-1.3GHz comp. i will be buying a geforce2/3 later on . could you please tell me which option would be better for playing games in the meantime - the onboard video on the d850 mobo or my stb velocity 128?
Thanx

Is the velocity agp??? if it is it wont fit in the mobo(uless it's the asus mobo(p4t)). The velocity rapes the onboard pos video.

What motherboard is this and what video chip is onboard it? If you have onboard video chip, sometimes you don't have a true AGP slot to add in a video card later.

I had thought that all d850 mobos had an agp slot. is this not true?
and the velocity 128 has an agp slot
thanks

velocity 128? velocity 1000 was a V3 chipset of lower clock, less memory, and one pixel pipeline disabled in OpenGL drivers. you can usually hack it successfully. you could even overclock it. does this card have 8Mb? it might not be enough for modern games.
my guess is the two are about equal. why don't you try them out.

I have a 1997 vintage velocity 128 PCI card. It still plays games okay, any thing is better than built in video! I supports open GL at least.

wel all know p4 mobo's have agp slots that dont support the voltages 3dfx cards require.

Make sure that i850 has an AGP slot before you buy! I think the performance is going to be nearly the same, but that depends on how many mb of ram the 128 has (8 or 16mb). Either way you won't be satisfied.;)
