Controller: intel SRCSATAWB without battery back-up
Mobile Rack: Supermicro CSE-M28E2
Hard Drives: 6x Velociraptors HLFS 300GB's

Question 1:
-------------
I think that the icepack for the velociraptor is just for 3.5" compatibility reasons. I know that it voids the warranty if i take the drives out but what the heck. Let me know your thoughts. Is it just a marketing trick or is there a real difference between the HLFS and the BLFS?

Question2:
-------------
What is the best configuration for best performance between the following:
Raid 5
Raid 6
Raid 50

They say Raid 50 is theoretically the fastest in read and writes from the bunch. Other people say that 6 drives in Raid5 should perform faster due to heavy calculations.

Question 3:
--------------
What are the best controller settings for Win7 x64 in a dual processor workstation. What stripe size, cache settings etc...

Question 4:
-------------
Should i partition the raid array for OS and Apps independently? Some people suggest that partitioning raid arrays doesnt provide the benefit of limiting drives to their outermost disk plates. Please advise.

Question 5:
-------------
So far, the raid controller did not detect the drive expander of the supermicro cage.
Theoretically, you only need to connect 1-4 sata cables to the cage to access all 8 openings.

Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks.
Ronald.

the ice packs do work, my temps are roughly around 80 degrees fahrenheit without case fan blowing on it with room temp of 70 degrees fahrenheit.
