Velociraptor for FRAPS, or something else?

Pretty straightforward question here - do you guys think a WD Velociraptor (like this), or, alternatively, two cheaper drives in RAID 0 (this or something similar) would be better for recording FRAPS footage at 720p, 60 frames per second?

Ignore the capacity difference between the two choices, 500GB is more than I've ever used or needed for FRAPS before since I edit and compress my footage promptly. I'll be using a Haswell CPU when it comes out (4770K), and I have my games installed on a 256 GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD.

If you're not constrained by space, 2x1TB (single platter) drives in RAID 0 is probably the way to go.

Raid 0 will have more throughput for sustained writes. But I want you to bare in mind that with DXtory I only produce about 1GB a minute on relatively uncompressed output which is only 17 MB/s, so a single normal 5400 rpm drive is more than capable of a 1080p full resolution capture at 60Hz. Fraps might be a bit less efficient but its still going to be quite low, you don't technically need more unless you intend to record at quite a lot higher refresh and resolution than you are intending.

As long as the drive is not storing your game data, OS, or page file, any will be as good as any other. There's no need for RAID 0, and no need for the Velociraptor. The WD10EZEX has been $70 for awhile, now, and unless some other drive goes on sale, is a good value, if not needing more space.

I was just thinking this. Find a 7200RPM drive with the highest platter density. Use it ONLY for FRAPS. Done.
