vehicle donation - does the tax write off work if you don't itemize

I'm thinking of donating my old car to charity. I usually don't itemize on my tax return (1040ez). Does the donation count in my case?
 
What you'll need to do is see if the value of the donation would make it worthwhile for you to itemize deductions. If the donation pushes you over the threshold, then you'll obviously want to count it. Add up everything that you could itemize and see.
 
you could donate it to the local fire department...they use those for proctice burns and extractions.
