Because of the forum you are asking in it's unlikely that any respondant will have tried any of the available options or if tried will speak favorably of them. Unfortunately vegetarian posts are in the same troll-bait category as religion and politics, at least that's the way it seems.

Seriously though, I have friends that are vegans, and they always go with the Tofurky for Thanksgiving. If you can't find something you like, why not go with something else entirely?

On a tangent, I am having turkey for lunch today. 🙂 Apparently they sell just the breast portion now. We got some for 99¢ / lb and it was 8lbs breasty goodness. They must sell the rest to hotdog companies or for processed meat.

I think most turkeys are vegetarian, though if you really must have a meat eater turkey I suppose wild ones get the occansional bug. Wouldn't make much difference to me, they are all good.
 
Kauru, I don't know what dream land you live in, but I'd really like to you see come back to the real world and say "I'm a vegetarian, but I eat Turkey."

Your understanding of these definintions your posted are skewed:

1) "Consisting primarily or wholly of vegetables and vegetable products"
2) "One who holds that vegetables and fruits are the only proper food for man. Strict vegetarians eat no meat, eggs, or milk."
3) "one who eats no meat or fish or (often) any animal products"

Number one says "primarily or wholly" because vegetables are where the nutrients are concentrated in a vegetarian diet. It would never say "primarily or wholly" of fruit products. Or "primarily or wholly" of grain products. It is not referring to "primarily" vegetable products and "some" meat as you take it as.

Number two might as well leave off that extra sentence... as it is simply there to supplement the first sentence. It makes it sound like there is an allowence of meat for people who are not "strict" vegetarians.

Number three is correct, in a way. There is NO vegetarian label for a person who eats meat, obviously because they are not a vegetarian. A "lacto-vegetarian" accepts dairy as part of their diet, and a "ovo-vegetarian" accepts eggs as part of their diet. Both I'm sure are controversal, as eating eggs is essentially eating meat, without having to kill a living breathing animal (only one that hasn't developed yet).

If you eat meat, you are not a vegetarian. I don't see how you could call yourself one... as it makes absolutely no sense at all, unless as did, interpret the definitions incorrectly.

And the main thing vegetarians need to be concerned about is Vitamin B12 since it is not available in adequate amounts in plants, so they say. However, two things make this of little concern.

1) Lucky us, we have the ability to supplement our food with vitamins such as B12. Drink soymilk? You get B12, as most brands you buy from your local store fortify.

2) It takes years for your body to drain it's supply of vitamin B12.. so there is plenty of time to sort your source out.

Protein is of another concern, but not really. Usually it's the uneducated meat eaters that bring up the topic of protein.

All plants contain amino acids. Combining amino acids = complete protein. Soy contains complete protein, and I've read newer information that claims there are some other vegetables that contain all the amino acids as well.

I get at least 14gms of protein from Soy per day. And depending on what else I eat, I clear 20gms at the very least overall. That is enough protein to support a 140lb human body which right now, unfortuantly, isn't doing much physical activity.

Why don't I eat meat?

1) I believe we have the technology and ability to survive on plant sources alone.

2) I believe eating meat these days is extremely unhealthy due to all the crap they feed and inject the animals with.

3) Cooking meat creates carcinogenic compounds = cancer causing substances. Ever barbeque? See all that black stuff on your meat? I'd stop eating it if I were you...

3) I don't agree with the conditions at many slaughter farms. We have to mistreat animals because we are unable to find a better way to process animals due to our explosive population count? So basically we took the easy way out...

4) Not eating meat means you are eating more plant foods, which means you are getting more beneficial vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidents, and other compounds to help fight off the effects of living in a "chemical" world.

5) Cheaper.

6) Tastes better.

If those reasons aren't good enough to make you understand why people go vegetarian, maybe these videos will make 'one' of those reasons a bit more clear:

Well that simply is relating their level of intelligence and technology (basically none) to our own.

So, we come up with a figure of how advanced we are compared to animals. Now, take that number and apply it to us and another species more advanced than us (extraterrestials).

So, the level of intelligence/technology between the extraterrestrials and us, is the same as between us and the animals.

What if some day, we are invaded by these extraterrestrials. A great war ensues on earth. We lose. Before they leave earth for another destination, they set up crude factories where we are processed and turned into a type of long-lasting dehydrated 'meat' snack . Not because they need it, but simply because they like it. We are treated much like those animals in the video. Kicked around. Thrown around. Throats slit while alive hanging from poles. Boiled alive. Skinned alive. Crushed. Stomped. Starved.

You would want to go throught that, huh? Does not sound like much fun to me.

Cambridge dictionary definition
vegetarian: a person who does not eat meat for health or religious reasons or because they want to avoid cruelty to animals

I think everyone would agree that if you eat meat, you are NOT a vegetarian.

so does anyone have any turkey suggestions, My girlfriend was goign to try and get some tofurkey action going on this year, but I was wondering if there were any other alternatives as well.

Kauru, you are wrong on both accounts. Being Vegan is anything but unhealthy. You can get every single mineral and vitamin you need without consuming animal products, except for b12. You can even get all of the essential amino acids.

If you eat meat, you are not a vegetarian. Sure, they have Pollo Vegetarian, etc, call yourself that, fine, but if you consume meat don't call yourself a vegetarian. It is a disgrace to every veg/vegan out there.

Who cares if you're only "mostly" vegetarian, or if you're just someone who chooses to eat mostly non-meat products but occasionally eats some animal products. Other than soy based products, I don't know what to tell you. Some type of bean dish, maybe Indian food? Eggplant?

Not exactly traditional, but the Pilgrims and Native Americans weren't exactly vegetarians.

Who the fck is mad at Kauru for what he eats. Kauru could eat bugs for all I care, but I get annoyed with someone says they are a vegetarian and still eats meat "because it is healthy". Is it really that difficult a concept to understand?
