My wife and in-laws were recently in Las Vegas. A couple of days ago my wife was telling me about how much money my father-in-law won on a particular slot machine. It was a Playboy-themed machine, but apparently it didn't feature any nudity.

Does that make any sense at all? This is an establishment where you have to be 21 to play, but all the machines are themed for the preschool crowd. Do you think I'm kidding? Look at how many slot machines are themed with bright colors and cartoon characters. Wouldn't it be enticing for some people to play on adult-themed games?

Then a couple of nights ago I was watching a special on Las Vegas, and the narrator was talking about all the laws and rules about how and where nudity can be displayed in Vegas. Again, if you have to be 21 to just walk in the door, why are there any rules at all about this stuff inside the gaming areas? It seems like the adult areas really aren't. Wouldn't you think that some casinos might want to draw in people with nude dancers?

Not that I'm looking for that sort of thing, but I like to wonder about things that just don't make sense.

So let's recap:
1. You have to be an adult to enter a casino
2. In the casino, you can drink
3. In the casino, you can smoke
4. In the casino, you can gamble
5. In the casino, you can do pretty much anything that an adult would ever want to do... except see a naked person.

Lot of casinos have a bunch of old people in them. Old people don't want to see nudity on their slots while they're sitting around shoving pennies into it for 6 hours straight and complaining about all the young people hanging around disrespecting their elders or whatever.

I don't disagree though, at the very least Caesar's should have some good old fashioned hardcore porn on some of their slots.

Your making a misconception that you have to be 21 to get in the door. Kids can walk through any casino and thus, see the machines. They have to be with an adult at most casinos but their still there. Doesn't mean they can't have machines though that have nudity, they'd just have to place them away from all the main walk ways.

Also, have you not walked down the strip and seen all the mexicans handing out hooker flyers? Half of them have nude women on them, so if there are such laws - as with most things Vegas - No ones following them

If you want nudity in Vegas, just go outside and pick up a bunch of the flyers and cards that the kids out peddling give to you.

Althought this may have basis in fact, there are hardly violent slot machines either.

Personally, slot machines are the last thing I'd ever play in Vegas so I could care less. People who play them are old people, incompetent people who actually thing they have a chance, and weird people who find it exciting somehow.

Bringing nudity into the Casinos at Vegas may not be as profitable as it seems. They sell sex very well with all of the girls walking around serving drinks and there are plenty of places to go in Vegas if you want boobies. I see your point of course, but I guess my point is that there is no point. ;)

At the hotels I went into in Vegas, the casinos were all right inside the main entrance. You had to walk through (or at least past) the casino to get to restaurants or the elevators.

Vegas isn't just an American Casino town. It competes with European and Asian Casinos as well. They have to provide an environment that doesn't offend customers and in some Middle-Eastern and Asian cultures nudity is sort of illegal. I'm sure there are also plenty of laws that have been created over the years to keep a certain element of trash out of the casinos and to class them up a bit.

I've been to arcades and have seen a non-nude Playboy pinball machine. It's a brand image...nothing more. They have clothing lines, retail stuff, etc...

If you want nudity in Vegas just go to any of the European bathing style specialty pools at some of the casinos. Topless anyway. Guys always have to pay though. Probably cheaper than the strip joints.

I went the the CES in '06 and while there visited the AVN. Now you have a room full of porn stars selling their tapes and platic molded genitalia, but there is no nudity allowed (nipples, etc.) Now that's weird.

You don't have to be an adult to enter a casino, not at all. Just to actually gamble. When I first moved to LV, I got hassled for just loitering too near the slots but I was allowed to be there. As a teen I went to the nearest movie theater which was inside a casino (and required walking around slots to get there) unescorted all the time.

Bzzzzt.

What is the legal age for gambling?
The legal age for gambling or gaming in the State of Nevada is 21 years of age. Casinos are expected to adhere to very strict rules to maintain their gaming licenses. Noone under the age of 21 is allowed in the casino area nor allowed to linger in the casino area while a parent is gambling. Most casinos do not allow photography of any type in the gaming machine or table areas. A few do expressly permit it. Another strictly enforced rule is no use of cellular telephones in the sports book betting areas.

Can my spouse / child / friend who is under 21 gamble with me if I'm over 21?
Under what obscure circumstances can someone under the age of 21 legally gamble in Las Vegas?
Since this STILL seems to be our most commonly asked question we would like to reiterate: First, RE-READ PREVIOUS ANSWER! It says NOONE under the age of 21 is legally permitted to gamble or to loiter in or about ANY gambling area under ANY circumstances. They WILL be asked for picture ID and likely escorted off the property, or conceivably even arrested, when caught. It does NOT matter if an over 21 spouse, parent, concubine or nursemaid constantly accompanies them, holds their hand, pushes, drags or carries them. It does NOT matter if your 21st birthday is coming up next week. It does NOT matter if you were just married, divorced, or neutered. It does NOT matter if you have only days left to live and will likely never make it to your 21st birthday. It does NOT matter if you're from another country or planet where gambling is permitted under the age of 21. It does NOT matter if your father is ruler of his own country or your mother is a famous actress. It does NOT even matter if you plan to gamble an amount equivalent to the Gross National Product of a small country. The law is the law. We do hope this finally serves to answer this question completely. (See also legal drinking age and how to determine your birthday below.)

The State of Nevada Gaming Control Board is extremely sensitive when it comes to minors in a casino-so much so that allowing minors to loiter where gambling is conducted is grounds to cancel, revoke, or even renew a casino's gambling license. NRS 463.350 spells out clearly that gaming, or employment in gaming, is prohibited for persons under 21. The statute states that a person under the age of 21 years shall not: (a) Play, be allowed to play, place wagers at, or collect winnings from, whether personally or through an agent, any gambling game, slot machine, race book, sports pool, or pari-mutuel operator. (b) Loiter or be permitted to loiter, in or about any room or premises wherein any license game, race book, sports pool, or pari-mutuel wager is operated or conducted. This, Ed, is where your 19-year-old female companion comes in-or maybe stays out.

There is some confusion as to whether minors under 21 are allowed in the casino at all. It is the opinion of the Attorney General of Nevada that minors can go into grocery and drug stores, hotel lobbies or other business places to transact ordinary business, even where gambling games are operating, provided minors are not allowed to "loiter" in such places.

you can get into any bar at 21 and must be 21 to enter most bars, yet there is no nudity there either.

You have to realize not everyone wants to walk into nudity just because they are 21.

Cute. I'm glad you can quote a web page. Guess what? "casino area" is ill-defined and often considered as the area directly around the machines. You basically have to be on a certain part of the carpet in the casino. A minor almost has to be sitting at a slot machine to be indisputably in violation of these rules.

As long as you aren't defining casino as the hotel itself, this is still incorrect. A minor (under 21 in this case) can't enter a casino even if they aren't gambling. Yes, casino area may be arguable, but your statement makes it sound like minors can wander around the craps tables so long as they don't place bets. They cannot.

Vegas now is not the vegas it was 20 years ago either.

The place has become more family oriented. I was there 2 years ago and it was like the place was set up for retards. It took me half the night to find a real casino.

You make a good point.

I say keep the violence, add the bewbies. No need to get rid of one for the other
