(Isn't 35% the common forced gratuity for groups?)
Holy shit, is that typical in LV? Excluding separate "service charges" for pre-arranged events (with quite a few more than attendees than simply "large parties at a table"), I've never seen an auto-grat higher than 18%...

Bet they'd be whining even louder if said foreign tourists weren't going to Vegas at all...

“you still have to give probably $10 or more to your service staff — like your bartender, your buser, your food runner."
That's either pure bullshit, or beyond blatantly illegal. But then the servers at a place that does it (if such exist) probably make so much money normally that (a) they're willing to live with the blatant illegality, and therefore (b) if they expect sympathy, they can go cry on one of their fair city's legal prostitute's shoulders, afaic, of course tipping her (or him?) well for the dubious privilege...

This is strange, my buddy works table games. He told me all tips for the casino are pooled and split among the entire staff. That if a guy has a great night at his table and tips him a grand, he doesn't get to keep the grand, but rather it all gets pooled and split on the paychecks.
That's not at all uncommon, even where it's illegal, but I've never heard of other employees getting "mandatory" tips even when none (or little) is actually left by the customer... (Not that I'm in the business, mind you, but the subject comes up a lot on food forums I frequent and no one - server, business owner, or friend-of-the-house - has ever mentioned such a thing among the frequent and numerous rants about "customers behaving badly"...)

Try ordering bottle service at a club in Vegas. 40% tax and gratuity on a 1500+ minimum table for some girl pouring you a vodka soda.

Well, yeah, those sorts of places are the same everywhere - you can do what they say, or you can leave (after you pay your bill, of course, whatever they decide it is), be it the easy way, or the hard way...;) But I thought we, as implied by the OP's cited article, were talking about "regular" restaurants...

Is 40% tax and gratuity automatic or is that just the standard expected? Sales tax in Vegas is 8.15%. So you're saying 32% gratuity is standard at clubs?

Pretty close to it. Only ones that don't do the auto grat are the clubs at the Wynn/Encore.

Good. Tipping is a stupid custom.
Tipping as a concept is fine.

Tipping in reality in the US is retarded.

Even american grownups in this forum-thread don't know the ins and outs of tipping in your own country. How more proof do you need to realize that your tipping customs are dumb, conservative, illogical, incomprehensible and utterly retarded ?

Same thing how in some states, or for some products, prices are advertised without taxes. You see an advertised price on some product or service, but it's always a surprise how much you're actually going to pay.

It covers it. You can only imagine how much money they make in a night since they work multiple tables a night.

Ok. Then it's not so bad and not that much different from "whiskey bars." If you add up girls tip at whiskey bars, then total tax and gratuity is pretty similar to Vegas club bottle service 40% auto grat.

Not surprised to see South Korea near the bottom. They just don't tip in their culture. When I take a taxi or eat out I was never expected to tip. Now, I did from time to time because I felt bad.

Not suprised to see Thailand near the top. I was always expected to tip when I lived there. Especially the taxis.

Those girls make thousands a night. Probably 6 figures easily. The prettiest girls are offered cars, homes and pretty much anything they want.
