I haven't been there for so long, I miss it. I used to go at least three times a year, the last time I was there, it was almost 6 months ago. :(

I'm there this weekend, :w00t;. See ya Lights @ Bellagio.

If a woman starts hitting on you at a bar, she's probably a call girl with a pimp not far behind.

Avoid hookers with runny noses. And get to the tables early in the morning for low table limits.

play in the poker rooms........

if your an average player with some common sense, you can take down some serious loot against these "WPT junkies" that think that watching it on TV makes them a pro.

I took down a whole table at foxwoods in CT. It was a $1/$2 game and i saw the table from across the room. Bunch of tourists and poker wannabes. I bought in for $100, ended up leaving with around $1200. No house to beat, no odds to worry about, just skill and confidence that i was better.

Oh and i credit my recent turn in winnings to Phil Hellmuth's book, Play Poker Like the Pros.

I haven't been to vegas for over a year now. I didn't enjoy the traffic or the $15 blackjack tables at major hotel resorts. I ended up staying in the Venetian but gambling at Casino Royal for finest, cheapest, single deck blackjack. And the drive back home on Sunday, yikes. One time it took me a good 10 hours to get back to Riverside.

Casino Royal is Bar none the best casino for people on a budget. Stay at a nice resort, but do your gambling there. my college buddies and I had a blast gambling at the casino royale last spring break.

we stay at the palms, which was off the hook.

My sister came into town last weekend and I went gambling with her. (I only gamble when friends come into town, and even then it's not much.)

The pit boss thought I was counting cards, lol. I was only playing on a $5 table but I turned my $20 into about $250 in a matter of twenty minutes. The pit boss came over and was watching me play and it was at that point I took my chips and cashed out.

The next day my sister wanted to gamble some more so I went and just watched her. She had an 11 and doubled and the dealer put her card, face down, under her chips. She went to look and I said "If you look it will become a 4", and sure enough it was a 4. (heisenberg, shrodinger, one of those things) I was totally joking because whenever I have a 10 or 11 and double I seem to end up with the worst card possible, like a 4.

Next hand the dealer had an ace showing and asked for insurance, I told my sister "no, if he looks at it it will be a 4", joking again. At the end of the hand the dealer said "what did you say my card would be?" and I said "4". He turned it over and it was a 4, lmao. This happened EIGHT TIMES!

Now I had two bosses watching me.

Cliffs notes: I called 8 hole cards correctly and they thought I was counting. (pure dumb luck)

Everything else I agree with, though.

I doubt he thought you were counting cards... if you kept naming the card that was coming up, he may have been looking for some sort of cheating device.

Im serious in the fact that his strategy is great. If you can combine his top ten hand play with play of your own you're set.

I've used his flop-raising technique to see hand strength of my opponents, and it has been flawless. For no limit holdem, i incorporate his limit holdem technique with about 80% of my personal experience. Since reading his book i've finished in the money 4 times out of the last 7 times ive played. Its a good book to read regardless, and no matter what people say he's the most consistant poker player in the world hands down. even if he's a 6'7" baby.

Yup, that too. It probably didn't help that as soon as I left I took out one of their hand sanitizer wipes and cleaned my hands. (I'm a paramedic, germs scare me)

His book is a joke in most of the crowds I run with. Phil's one of the best players in the world at no limit, no doubt, but he's not a great limit player (rumor has it that he's lost most of his NL winnings in ring games), and his book only has one worthwhile section: the "player types," which is surprisingly accurate.

I'm assuming that by flop raising, you mean that if someone bets into you and you have any sort of hand (say you have TT on a flop of K 7 4, and you are bet into), you raise to see if the opponent has a strong hand. That's pretty sound advice from the perspective that to win in poker, you have to be aggressive.

In general though, for a beginner's book, there are just too many books that are far better out there. For people who haven't played much, any book will do them a ton of good. Hell, Gary Carson's book would probably improve most people's game. But I still wouldn't recommend it. :D

If it worked for you, that's a good thing. Turning $100 into $1200 is a good run, especially at 1/2, and is nothing to be laughed at (though a run like that usually means the deck hit you in the face AND that you were a competent player). In all honesty, though, for playing 1/2 I'd recommend you pick up WLLHE or possibly SSHE (if you're a more advanced player) and read up on the concepts in there. Both are very good for low-stakes games.

in 2001 I was on a roll playing craps at Mandalay Bay casino and had former NBA'er Charles Barkley cheering me on. That was kind of cool.
