Vegas Airport police arrest Jerry Lewis for carrying Prop Gun

Unfxking real.

7-30-2008 Vegas police: Jerry Lewis cited for gun in luggage

LAS VEGAS - Police say they have confiscated a gun belonging to Jerry Lewis that was found in the 82-year-old entertainer's carryon bag as he prepared to fly to Detroit from Las Vegas.

Las Vegas policeman Bill Cassell said Tuesday that the actor was cited Friday for carrying an unloaded concealed weapon at the Las Vegas airport.

Lewis' manager, Claudia Marghilano, says the handgun is a hollowed-out prop gun that Lewis sometimes twirls during his show. She tells The Associated Press that the gun couldn't fire.

Marghilano says Lewis didn't know the gun was in the bag along with other props.

Cassell says if the gun were merely a prop "it wouldn't be a weapon and we couldn't cite him for carrying a weapon."
===================================================

If it turns out to be truly a "hollowed-out prop gun" then the Police need to be fired since they can't tell a real gun from a fake.

This prop gun weigh the same a real gun too? They should be easy to tell apart. Can't fault the security on this though, real or fake, can't let something looking like a gun on a plane.

Its tough to tell the difference if you have a gun pointed at you. Sounds like it looked pretty damn real too, and from what his manager said, it sounds like a real gun missing some internals.

OP is right, this is unfucking real. Unfucking real that anyone would think that it is ok to bring a non-firing gun onto an airplane in this day and age.

The actors status or age mean nothing according to the law. Probably the same people that bitch about actors getting away with DUI's.

Wait...

So basically he's saying that a citation is proof in and of itself? 😕

Are you saying an 82 year old comedian would be incapable of causing any type of panic or fear among passengers if he pulled out what they would assume to be a real gun?

How about he's a fucking idiot for bringing anything that even resembles a gun to an airport?

Did you miss the part where he may have not known it was packed in the luggage?

He is 82 afterall.

Yes, because if I brought anything in my luggage and when arrested just said "Oh, I didn't know it was in there" they would just let me go.

His fault or not, you cant bring that on an airplane.

Watch out, Dave! Surely you must know that there's no such thing as accidents anymore in this country. Zero tolerance for mistakes! Damn criminals.

/sarcasm.

I bring guns to the airport all the time. I think the issue here is that it was in his carry on luggage. Even local & state police can't carry firearms past the security gate in an airport anymore.

How is this situation unique to the United States? You can't bring a gun in your carry-on in any country that I know of.

This is not news worthy.

I just laughed when I did a google search for this story. A billion newspapers are running this story, and 99% of them just run the AP version or change like two sentances around. There is no news even being written anymore it seems. Theres just a template that someone has to create a story and thousands of other papers copy/paste.

It wasn't even a real gun...

if they had looked at it, said "FAKE", confiscated it, and let him go that would of been alright... people get arrested for stupid mistakes all the time these days.

It's more of how situations are handled.

Is arresting an 82 year old man for this the best approach and interest of the country?

We might as well cane him or better yet execute him in a public square.

yes, we should let people whose life decisions have resulted in them checking bags in the airport have the power to decide what is ok or not to bring on a plane.

Sorry, but I'm much more comfortable with these mental giants being instructed "if it looks like a weapon, treat it as a weapon, we'll worry about whether it's real or not later. I don't care if it's your mother on the line, treat everyone the same."

Um, it clearly states in the article he wasn't arrested. He was cited.
