I'm sure some of you students have seen the ads or even visited the training courses...but I really can't decide if I want to work there. On one hand they are selling a pretty good product but on the other hand im selling out my relatives. I've read up on a lot of people say it's a scam, but most of the people who have stuck with it said it's pretty good. It is pretty much a well-dressed pyramid scam, but you do have potential to make a lot of money.

$17 an hour sounds nice, but you're making calls on your own time to set appointments with people to sell Cutco products, and you have to pay for your own gas to go to these peoples houses. It's door to door sales mixed in with a little tele marketing, but it is an honest approach to customers. Although you're not telling them everything about the product, most of what you're saying is true. It's not $17 an hour really...$17 per appointment.. but then if your commision is more than the wage you make, you keep the commision.

It sounds too good to be true. But when you go there, it's a shady ass office building, and they really dont tell you much about the product or how you're going to sell it. Hell...there's a whole discussion about this, and I don't know what to about the job.

has anyone had experience with them? Is it too good to be true? Does it take a lot of work? Does it beat working at McDonalds? Hell :(

basically, once your done with your relatives (who make sympathy purchases from you), you're screwed because no one else will buy from you unless you're a really good salesman, or because they are in desperate need of knives.
and you gotta have balls to go to their referrals, and most people only give you like 1 or 2 referrals.

then the manager will hit up all those "appointments" with follow-up phone calls, to see if you did actually do the presentation properly. i thought this was pretty messed up, because i was assured that they would not follow up any calls to annoy my frends and family. of course i understand that they must somehow check up to see if you're not lying to them, but if you're gonna do that, don't lie and say that you won't call.

Cutco knives are great, but hard to sell.

edit: btw, fix your link. you have 2 https://

My ex sold Cutco when he was in college and it sucked HUGELY. Not only did he not make money, he lost money because he bought a couple sets of knives himself. He sold them to my parents, his parents and one friend and that was it. And before you say that he just wasn't a good salesman, that's all he ever wanted to be (low expectations, IMO). He's a regional sales manager for a big company now and hasn't worked anyplace where he wasn't selling something. He hated Cutco.

yobarman - I went through the whole training thing about a month ago, did a couple practice appointments - it's not worth it. Not worth the time to go make appointments, drive out to wherever, etc. It's a good brand of knives - just you're better off with a "real" job rather than this crap. I've been selling stuff for over 2 years now and I had no luck with this whatsoever. You might be out of a job but this is more trouble than it's worth.

they suck like sh$t.
i got gay letter from 'em.
i went setup appt with them.
went to "interview"
they asked me fill out certain info, basic, name address.
not even reference/work exp info.
btw,l that interview was crowded, like 30 people in a small room filling out these things.
then this kid like 20s (my age) called 2 people into another room.
started off interview by asking what you like to do during spare time. THATS ALL and he says to me, ok thanks for coming we'll give u a call.
that a complete jerk
i will never trust these companies that send me mails saying we offer 20 bucks hr and doens't tell u shi%t before u go to actual place for "interview"
people on the ph won't tell u shi%.
so stay far away from these bastards

everyone seems to have the same stories. at least they are all consistent.

the first thing that i noticed was that it was conducted in a small run down apartment/office full of non-related trophies. it looked very suspicious.

what i disliked about them is that they advertise wage as $16 in huge print, and then "per appt" or "base" in small print.

I've decided to not take the job..the only people I know who think it's worth it are the people who are gonna waste their whole summer selling out their families.

The CutCo office in my city is apparently #1 in sales in the country out of 600some offices (and I don't even live in a big city). So as you can imagine, the supervisors and sales-reps there were all aggressive as hell. I think everyone that did go through their training program will probably make several thousand bucks this summer.

Why didn't I go through with it? Halfway through the training program, I dropped out because the prospect of selling knives to people I knew and asking them for referrals was just too humiliating. I could have done it to people I didn't know, but they want you to start off doing it to your relatives and stuff and then get referrals for them. That and I've got a pretty comfortable job already during weekdays.

But if you're a natural salesman, I'd say go for it. You can easily make $10,000 during the summer with their 50% commission rates and all if you work full time.
