Vector Adaptive Deinterlacing Option Missing - Catalyst Drivers

Hi. I'm using a Dell E1505 with a ATI Mobility Radeon X1400. As you may or may not know, Dell's laptop models require you to obtain graphics drivers from them instead of directly from ATI. Dell's latest driver for this model, however, are close to 7 months old. As I'm looking to boost performance in some of my games, I used a workaround to install the latest Mobility Catalyst drivers (7.1) direct from ATI. They've managed to improve my performance greatly. However, I do a lot of DVD watching on this laptop too, and I realized that that the deinterlacing option I use when watching films, Vector Adaptive, is missing in the Catalyst Control Center's options; it has Auto-Detect, Bob, Motion Adaptive, Adaptive, and Weave, but no Vector Adaptive. I figured maybe it was just a problem with this specific release, so I did some searching online and installed the Mobility Catalyst 6.11 drivers (after using the ATI uninstaller and manually deleting leftover registry keys and Windows System32 remnants), and still the option was missing.

Even Dell's last released driver (back from July), which I mentioned above, is missing the Vector Adaptive deinterlacing option. Though the one released previous to it (I think based on Catalyst 6.3 or 6.4) has that option available, which is the one I'm using now. Unfortunately these drivers are kinda old and don't work too well with the latest games, so I'm stuck in a Catch-22. I'm sorry if this all sounds confusing, but what I'm basically asking is if the Vector Adaptive deinterlacing option was removed from the Catalyst software (for whatever reason), or is it some kind of problem on my end? And if its the latter, how would I go about correcting it?

Thanks in advance for any help you would be able to provide.

Welcome to AT :)

A little poking around seems to indicate that you need to have AVIVO installed to get this option. Is it?

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I'm not too sure what you mean. Are you referring to whether or not my graphics card is AVIVO capable (its specifications state that it is) or is there additional software that needs to be downloaded outside of the Catalyst drivers/Control Center?

For example, I have AVIVO Video options in the Advanced view of Catalyst Control Center. Here is a screenshot with the current drivers I'm using (the quite old ones that lists the Vector Adaptive option): http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/8038/deinterlacing2yy8.jpg. The other drivers I tried show the exact same thing, minus that specific deinterlacing method.

Thanks again.

Your chip looks to be AVIVO compatible (as long as Dellification hasn't made it not so). There is a separate download for the entire AVIVO suite. ATi thwarts external links so I can't directly link you - go to the page for your drivers and when you scroll down hopefully you will see a link for "Complete Avivo? Suite for X1000 series products".

If not, just pretend you have an X1950 and the link for the suite should show up for you further down the page.

Thanks for the reply.

I uninstalled my drivers and made sure to delete its remnants, and then proceeded to install the latest Catalysts (7.1) from ATI, followed by the complete AVIVO suite. No dice. Looking at the Deinterlacing options, it looks like this: http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/4921/vectorzc7.jpg Notice the Vector Adaptive deinterlacing option is missing. Personally I'm puzzled why it would appear in Dell's older drivers, but not the one released thereafter, and more importantly, in any of the Mobility Catalyst drivers released by ATI (I've tried 6.10, 6.11, and 7.1). The only drivers which show the option are this specific one released by Dell (Version A02 - http://tinyurl.com/2re8lw, and the two previous drivers released before that one (A00 and A01)
The last version released by Dell (A03), that specific option disappears just like the drivers I tried that were released by ATI.

Arg, well it was worth a shot... maybe a fellow Dell laptop owner can tell you more. Good luck.
