Also is a wifi version of this asus board just a safer bet as the non wifi?

I think both the wifi and the non-wifi boards are the same, the wifi just comes with an antenna while the non-wifi has the slot just no antenna

no, wifi generally indicates version 1. If it has wifi, make sure it is rev 2, which has pci/agp locks.

wifi version does say rev 2 but i may go for the MSI which has a 2.85 vdimm??
