vcr/dvd combo units, good or buy them seperate?

I dont have a dvd player or vcr yet so im going to buy some to go along with buy tv before i move out.

ive noticed that there will be some dvd/vcr combo units on sale on black friday for $70-80 after rebates. I like the idea of having them both be one unit for storage purposes,
however I've noticed that it would be cheaper to just buy them seperate (good dvd players going on sale for $30, and a new vcr would cost me $15 on craigslist)

im wondering, is it common for either the dvd or vcr to fail in those combo units? cuz if so, that would suck, and i wouldnt do it.

also, in the combo units, do they have tuners built in on most, like how all vcrs do? the reason i ask is because my tv tuner doesnt seem to want to work as well. (its not the antenna either)

I have seen decent combo units at walmart for $50 without a rebate and not even an off brand with a stereo vcr. Unless you have a butt load of vcr tapes or plan on doing some recording then I wouldnt even bother with a vcr at all.

And yes the more the moving parts the more stuff to break. So if thats a worry for you then I would just buy in seperate units. You can get a nice dvd/dvix player for under $50 all the time without a rebate.

i just went to target and walmart. i didnt see any combo units for $50 🙁
i saw one for $65 at walmart, and that was the cheapest. I think I'll just buy them seperately cuz its cheaper, and deal with the pain of having 2 different units. lol
