VCR and PS2 question

Okay i need to buy a VCR because we are getting free cable tv. My roommate has a VCR hooked up to the wall antenae and he's getting all the channels =)...whats a good/decent VCR to buy these days? I already have a panasonic progressive scan DVD player btw.

Now my PS2 it hooked up to my 51inch HD tv projection screen tv. I hear there is a component video cable upgrade or S video cable...what the heck is the difference? My tv is not a widescreen...its an older panasonic from last year i believe.

What does getting free cable have to do with needing to get a VCR? You planning on recording things or do you have a crap TV that isn't cable ready?

you have a 51 inch tv and need to steal cable? anyway, that 51 inch has to be cable ready. if you want a vcr anyway you can get a pretty good 4 head stereo one for probably 50-60 these days.

component video is a little better than s-video, but s-video is a lot better than RCA, so I would go with s-video

did you let your tv autodetect channels, if you do you will prob find that it finds the same channels

i tried it already....only picked up a few signals...but when i tried my roomies vcr it picked up everything.

are you in an apt complex? i've actually seen where one room would get cable and the rest of the rooms would not, something like that one room was getting the neighbors cable, the people set it up wrong, that could be the case here. if you want to make sure borrow your roommates vcr, but I bet you don't pick up all the channels just because of the vcr.

Is the TV set for Air or Cable? If it's Air, you're probably getting cable channels that are the same channel # as Over-The-Air stations.

hmm i'll check that out then

You need to return the TV if it wont get the TV channels. A VCR is nothing but the same tuner that is your TV right now.

I have a feeling it's not set to cable, though.

You should report to your cable company that you need your cable tv disconnected.

Not! Comcast can go burn in hell!
