Vcore...bios vs actual (also general questions about oc'ing 1700+)

I have decided to head a bit deeper into the world of overclocking. Up until now I have only done slight overclocking, but i bought (and am waiting for the arrival of) an XP 1700+. The guy I bought it from tested it up to 12.5x166 @ stock voltage. He couldnt go higher because his board will only go up to those bus and multiplier settings. Anyhow, I would imagine that I can go a bit higher b/c he was only in the low 40's under load @ 12.5x166. So my question is this, I see people posting about vCore settings in bios and the actual voltages. What is the difference and how to I figure out what my actual is? Also, the chip is a 1700+ Tbred JIUHB 0312. Any thoughts on how much farther I can expect to go?

I had 2 0312's both had 1.6v Vcore stock. If you up the Vcore you will bring more heat. Sometimes your motherboard will undervolt the CPU causing system instabilities, which is why you will want to overvolt your CPU. For example: If you have an Abit NF7/-S, then you will know that your motherboard will slightly undervolt your CPU. It's a very small difference between BIOS and actual, but it can create a lot of instabilities if it's too low. Please tell us what your motherboard is and your other system specs. This could really help us in giving you more information...

For me, on both my computers, the VCore is reported .05v higher than it is set to. Thus, I have my XP 2400+ (1.65v) is set to 1.6v and working well.
