i have a p4 3.0 800 fsb running on a asus p4c800 deluxe and a aiw 9700 pro. my case is the thermaltake xaser with the seven fans but i was having problems running stable just in normal clocking speeds. my temp was about 44 while gaming. well i changed out the 2 rear and 2 side fans no i have my p4 up to 3.5 and the aiw from 325 and 310 to 366 and 342. while gaming the temp only gets to aobut 34 now and no problems now. my question is how do i know what to set the vcore at i have it at 1.6 now but not really sure if i should give it more juice and try and get more ou of the cpu or whatever. just really dont know where the vcore should be. thanks.

You can do 1.65, don't risk 1.7 on the P4...

@3.5ghz it's not worth hosing your $400 chip.

What size PSU ( power supply )

Seems your were unstable from the amount of fans... Could be power related.

Any random reboots? Have you checked for stability? ( the right way ) ? Prime 95. Google it.

well i dropped my vcore to 1.85 and am running at 3.5. so far its stable after an hour of gaming. um i have a true blue 480 watt antec power supply. i think the problem was the lack of fan see what came withthe case were those silent fans and i swapped them for 4 4800 rpm fans and wow the temps dropped.

...

/wipes my brow

1.85v is DEATH on a P4...

Run prime 95 and loop 3dmark to ensure stability.

1 hour of gaming does not cut it.

does the amount of adjustments sound out of line for what i have. also how long should i loop 3dmark hell i ran it all night sat night while overclocking didnt stopp til 5 in the morning of course i paused some while making adjustments

Well normally if it's can loop all night it's "pretty" stable..

As i said before, google Prime 95.

If you can pass 12 hours on the torture test, it's stable as it can be.

yeah i looped it all night and it was fine i really cant believe that i got a 3.0 p4 up to 3.5 with only running hell i think the vcore is now at 1.56 i lowered it again and still fine

With the newer P4's people are not seeing as much of a gain in OC'ing when uping the Vcore much past stock. You would probably only see a couple of FSB's at the most above 1.6V.
