Thought I would try this player.

Text

so downloaded the rpm and ignored the 2 optional below it.

first tried installing as they suggested then tried using yum to do a local install.
both failed due to dependency errors. probably about a half dozen of them as i recall.

groan this is so typical. Follow the instructions, it doesn't work then no further documentation on what to do then.

did a google and found a few other people with the same problem but no real answers were posted to thier questions.

yes, may try mplayer next already have totem with xine frontend installed it won't play one either. I have read it is compiled that way on purpose for legal fears

That's right. The codecs for reading DVDs are proprietary and would cost money to license. That's why, for example, Windows Media Player doesn't play DVDs unless there's other software installed that includes the codecs. The video players for Linux likewise need either the appropriate codecs or another way to get past the encryption.

As for your VLC installation troubles, I'm puzzled by the "yum localinstall" command. It looks like the localinstall thing is relatively new, and I didn't find much info about it, but maybe you should try just a "yum install."

my yum repo doesn't have vcl i guess or any of the libraries am trying to figure out now how to use daag wieers repo and yum now it keeps giving me an invalid url when I configure my yum the way he suggests.
So part of the problem is just my ignorance on the subject. but that too will pass:)
