Will a VCD play in a DVD player?

I'm a real dork about these things. Thanks for any info.

Depends on the player. Look at the specs for whatever one you have.
Generally, VCDs will play on most newer players, and SVCDs only on some of them.

Most of the time yes. Mine is about a year old and plays DVD/VCD/SVCD/CD/MP3.

Some players can be picky about the media used, as well. My Toshiba doesn't like cheapo generic CD-Rs as much as Taiyo Yudens.

Ha, right after I wrote this I did a google search and landed on vcdhelp.com.
