VCD Size limit? On DVD-R?

I need to put a 4 GB file on a disk and want to put it in VCD format and put it on a DVD-R.. Will it play like a VCD still?
 
I was going to try the same thing but no burning software that I could find was able to burn the VCD format on a DVD. Have you tried to do this at all yet? Because if you find a way to make it work, I would really like to know, too.
 
You can't put VCD format on a DVD. You CAN burn it as a DVD using MPEG1 with pretty much the same settings as a VCD.

Check your (unmentioned) burning software.

Seems simple enough from the guide. As is when I create SVCDs I leave the sampling rate at 48 so that'd save a step if I go to sort/combine to DVD-R later. Any reason this wouldn't work with SVCD files the same as with VCD? Seems if anything it should work better.
