Wife purchased what she thought was a 2 CD music set.

CD #1 is music - plays in her walkman.

CD #2 is labeled as a VCD.
I was able to look at the directory structure and file names using Windows Explorer when I placed it into the optical drive slot on my T60.

She can not play the second disc on her portable DVD player.

What can I do to create a DVD from the VCD?
Software to create a proper DVD for her?
Will a commercial package like Roxio or Nero allow her to view the VCD on one of our laptops?
The T60 is equiped with a DVD burner.

You need something that will convert VCD to MPEG2. From there you would use some type of authoring tool to create the DVD files and then burn those files to DVD. Some tools may be all-in-one and will do the entire process.

There's a lot of software out there that can do this but not all of them work well. I would suggest going to www.videohelp.com and checking out the latest tools, recommendations and forums. NERO probably has a tool that does this as well.

With a VCD, you need to first convert the .dat file to a .mpg file. Some people just rename the .dat to .mpg. There are slight differences between the two, so if you just rename the file, you do not have a proper .mpg/mpeg-1 file. For this process, use VCDGear:

Next, you want to take that .mpg file and create a folder on your hard drive that will be burned later. Last freeware version of VSO DivxToDVD can accomplish this.

Finally, you will need a general burning software application that can take the dvd folder and burn it to a dvdr. Nero, Roxio, or whatever can do this. If you need a freebie, Ashampoo works:
