VCD Creation Question...?

I am new to the video editing arena and simply want to take my recording video from my camcorder and make them into VCD's. I have played with the cheezy program that came with the Sony Camcorder called Pixela or something, but I don't like it. I also have ulead DVD Studio 2 and like it a bit better. My question is this.... I figured out how to make a VCD, but when the video is taken from the camcorder and put onto the hard drive, it chops the video into segments instead of one streaming video. I want the video to be in one consecutive stream, how do I do it?? Thanks a million!

Depends on a lot of variables. For instance, if the filesystem you're putting the video on is FAT you can't have files bigger than 4G.

Nothinman,

I am running WinXP with the NTFS file system. It's funny you mention the 4GB mark though because that is as large as one segment will run for. I think it is like 4.4GB or something and then one of the programs come up and say "File exceeds size of HD" or somethin like that. I have a ton of HD space so that is not the case. How do I get around this? I want to make one full length movie without any breaks, thanks!

You mentioned that you are capping the video from the camcorder, what connection does the camera use(firewire, usb2, etc.)? It's the software that came with the camera that you are using to cap the video which is segmenting the video, correct? How long minutes wise are the clips that you are capturing?

I am using a firewire transfer cable and the software is a cheap suite from Sony calle dPixelA or something. I also tried using a software suite called Ulead DVD Studio 2 or something and it fragments the video as well. With the Sony software, the video transfer would interupt about 4.5GB into it. With the Ulead software, it is irregular with no consistent pattern. All I want to do is transfer one big movie file to my HD and then convert it for VCD creation without a bunch of chapters to navigate through. Anyone? Thanks!

There are several joining programs out there for joining mpeg's together, just google 'mpeg joiner' and you'll come up with something. To capture, I use Pinnacle Studio 9, works pretty good, also has some nice transitions that come with it. You can also get HollywoodFX and that has a ton of 3D stuff in it.

Cyko,

I appreciate the info on the joiners. Although this seems like an ok option, I know there has to be a way to keep it as one continiuous stream. You see it all the time on movie rips. Does anybody know why these unsolicited clips are being forged in my rip? Thanks!
