Just picked up a used system with the rambus version of the slot 1 VC820 with a 600mhz chip on the daughtercard.

I did some looking around on the web about them.

Anyone have any other information about them from actual experience?

Stability, reliability, etc...?

I had one and it worked very well for my daughters system. I ran a PIII 1GHZ flip chip with a slocket just fine. Just be sure to update the bios to the latest version for best compatibility.

You Will need a manual to properly use it

Well, it's in a running system so I'm inclined to just leave well enough alone, other than f disk /mbr and installing redhat.

Do you think that's a bad move?

I dont know why it would be a bad move unless there is a problem with NIX and Intel, but I doubt it. If Red Hat doesnt like it you can always go back to Windows. Im not a Linux user so I cant say for sure.

Redhat is optimized for pentiums.

Or at least that what it says right here... (pointing toward imaginary redhat manual)

I had this board (In fact still do just not running) with a 1GHz PIII and 384mb of RDRAM. I ran Mandrake 8.1 on it for a while, however it was a dual boot with Win2k. Very stable board, in fact I was hesitant to upgrade because I never had a system crash for over a year. Very stable if you ask me.
