VC Titles - Are they really worth the money?

Modeps

In response to this thread here I really wonder what the value is with having VC titles. It appears as though Nintendo is really just releasing ROMs for sale. They may not even do any work to them and the games are already made. Very little effort, maximum profits.

At least with the old titles re-released on the 360, you get additional functionality of leader boards, achievements, and in many cases online coop play. I love Zelda, I love Mario, but I've already bought these games multiple times on older systems already.

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed by the VC... games are too expensive. Nintendo really dropped the ball this generation with regard to pretty much anything online.

Theres a LOT of really incredible games on the VC, but theres also a lot of crap, and they all have one thing in common...theyre just too damn expensive.

There are very, very, very few games worth the money they charge for them. Sorry, but $5 for a NES game, and $8 for a SNES/Gen game is absurd when theres plenty of compilation games out there with dozens of titles for $20 or so.

Hell, even animal crossing for the GC contained about $50 worth of NES games.

Looking at it another way, I spent $10 on Paper Mario which took 30 hours to beat, and I payed $50 for Super Paper Mario, which took 40 hours to beat.

VC is pointless for me. I own most of the older titles and the consoles so I can always hook it up if I want to play. I like playing older games on a handheld and Sony PSP homebrew fits my need.

BTW, are there any Sega Saturn games on the VC or 360?

I believe the Saturn Bomberman game is on XBLA. Not sure about any others, and definitely no Saturn games on VC.

That's one of the main thing holding me off from buying a Wii. Lack of any serious online play. Why is it so hard to make it so you can play Wii Tennis online? It's like Nintendo completely forgot about it. Even the Nintendo DS has some online functionality.

I'm a little surprised with how expensive the VC titles are. I'll probably be getting a wii soon, more for my kid and if I ever have any people over, but it'd be fun to have some old nes/snes games to play. I just don't know if I can justify paying $5 for a 20 year old NES game, seems a little silly.

there are some saturn games on gametap if you're interested.

Yeah, the VC is really disappointing. Nintendo is just milking those games for all they are worth. It costs them virtually nothing but the bandwidth to send the game to you and that's probably a sunk cost anyway. The lack of effort on Nintendo's part is disgusting, IMO.

Compare that to the classic titles on XBLA. Some have enhanced graphics, online leaderboards, achievements, and local multiplayer games are now online multiplayer games. And they cost the same or less than the VC games on the Wii. The problem is that Nintendo has a phenomenal classic game catalog, but they are too lazy to do anything interesting with them. They would rather turn a quick buck and bilk their absurdly loyal fanbase.. and why not? Much of their fanbase simply refuses to see any fault with Nintendo and will gladly buy the same games they've purchases several times before, no questions asked or effort expected.

Oh well, not me. I actually have 2000 points in my account that were a gift from a friend on my birthday. Those points have been in my account for about half a year now and I haven't spent a single one. And I won't until I see some effort in their classic titles, the prices drop, or they start offering some original titles.

the VC imo is lame. if they added online play, leaderboards, etc, then it would be worth it.

but for the price you pay for what you get, it's lame as hell.

They are if you are going to play them.

I've downloaded some great games that I never had access to as a kid, and I've also downloaded some games just for convenience. I enjoy being able to play Mario Kart 64 on my Wii without having to lug out my N64 and go find a hard copy of Mario Kart. But I am unusual as I really enjoy some older games; I have beaten LoZ: OoT 6 times, two of which were on the Wii.

I bought Paper Mario and enjoyed it. I never had an n64 so I figured it was worth it. Most of the games on there I'm not very interested in.

eh, it all depends on what you find worth it. I think it's a bit pricey, but I'm willing to pay for the games I didn't play, it doesn't seem too bad of a price.

I'm really curious as to how wiiware will pan out, and if any good games ever come out of it.

There's a rumor that Radiant Silver Gun is coming to XBLA.

Personally, I think the VC sucks. I can get a retro compilation for pennies per game vs. $5 for the VC title. THe only one I really wanted was Super Mario Kart 64 and that was because I thought it'd get online play.

I hope not. I own Radiant Silver Gun for the Saturn and hope a good emulator is never made for the Saturn. Emulation devalues original games.

Maybe once they figure a system like live for xbox as on the wii when you buy a VC game and happen to sell that consiole and getr another you have to pay for the games again....😕

Now with say xbox live it is all tagged with your live username, you just download it again to the new console..

They are a bit over priced also on the VC games and on live as well.
