Varying Internet Speed

I current get about 35-37Mbps down when connected to my modem directly. Although when I connect through my router (RVS4000) that speed drops down to 19-20Mbps. Flow control is unchecked and MTU size I believe is at 1500.

I am not sure what to change or do to increase that speed or if it just the effect I have to live with from having a router in between the modem and computer.
 
Disable IPS (Intrusion protection system) on the router. Seems to be a common issue with the router.

Steps
Go to the control panel (http://192.168.1.1)
Go to the IPS tab
Go to the Configuration Tab
Disable the IPS function
Save settings and reboot the router.

Not sure what the risk is of disabling it. Make sure the regular firewall is enabled by
Go to the Firewall Tab
Enable Firewall, DoS Protection and Block WAN Request
Disable the rest.

The cpu is underpowered in the router and can't handle all of the traffic from a high speed connection so the speed is reduced. You can try to update the firmware to see if it helps.

Thanks for that I had read that somewhere but I couldn't for the life of me remember what it was. With turning that off does that reduce my protection at all or will the firewall and DoS and block wan request be sufficent?

I also have another router but on a much slower connection I think a 1Mbps connection would turning off that on there see a speed increase or is it just for the higher speed tiers?

Home routers don't have IPS and work fine. Your router is a small business router and has some extra security features. Don't know much about your workplace, but I wouldn't worry much about the IPS.

Seems the router becomes overloaded at high speed tiers. Don't think it will do anything at 1mbps, you can try though.
