Varsity Baseball tryouts today...

Im so incredibly nervous. I haven't had very many opportunities to practice my pitching so i have no idea how i will do. And from what i hear the other person trying out for right field is really really good.

Wish me luck... im going to need it.

Just go in there with confidence. Don't over extend yourself though. You'll pull a muscle & you'll come off looking worse. Practice your motions & try to have it down packed.

I have the speed, however my accuracy isn't always perfect. However, i dont want to pitch to slow, as this is Varsity. Also my breaking ball is good it breaks about a foot and a half, however im worried about the times when it doesn't break and sails off towards the batter.

I guess my primary concern is accuracy. My stance and everything look good though, not that it matters a whole lot 🙂.

Dude, go in there with confidence. I want you to say to yourself right now, "I can do this" 10 times, with each succession getting louder until you are pumped up by the 10th time saying it. Then go make the f'n team!! Nike was right.... "Just do it." 😉

That's aiiight....keeps'em honest.

Well im back from pitching and catching tryouts. Everything went quite the reverse. I nailed my target every time. My breaking ball broke 1 for 2. However i, as a suprise to me, didn't have as much velocity.

Well that was only pitcher and catcher tryouts, so i think the other tryouts should go pretty well as my main position is right field.

Thanks for all the encouragement.

Choke up, stand loose, and swing early... 😀

Learn a knuckler... or throw submarine style..

Well pitching went good but i cant say the rest did 🙁

I was absent for a couple of days (The first absence in 5 years no joke), and had to make up a test. So today i made up the test and had told multiple people to tell the coach what i was doing. I got to tryouts about 1 hour late, and my friends informed me that my coach was extremely angry and that i might as well not have come. There is no way in hell i am taking a 0 on a test grade. Then conditions were bad, and in my 60yard my heel got stuck in the mud and as a result i got a 8.13 on it 🙁 ... horrible. I caught all the fly balls, and what not coming my way though. I guess there is the next 2 days to show that i am better. This really sucks guys!

In the off season, can anyone tell me what i can do to strengthen my arm. I NEED to be able to throw harder, and farther. Also a little faster on the bounce, or off of a line drive couldn't hurt.

To throw harder, strengthen the muscles (duh), but don't overdo it. practise practise practise... It's more technique then raw strength... To get a good jump on a liner or short hop, it's anticipation, and keeping your head in the game. As well, understand the hitting habits of your opponents. Baseball is just as much mental as it is physical.

if you lift weights to strengthen your arm be sure not to add bulk, do small amounts of weight and a lot of reps. Also get one of those hand spring grip things( not sure what they're called) that will help with your grip and give you more snap to your pitches (giving them more movement). I did all this and got my fastball from lower 80's to upper 80's and more movement on my breaking pitches in a year.

I think the batter will be a bit more worried about that than you 🙂

This is HS. Also i am only a Junior so i still have another year.

Thanks for all the encouragement and support guys. Believe it or not it helped. My coach was awesome and sat us down and asked us how we thought we did. I told him i thought my pitches were very accurate yet slow, my outfield could use work, and my hitting was pretty nice. He agreed 100% and told me that i needed to work on arm strength, and that i knew the sport very well. He also said he was anxious to see me out there next year; he also said he thought i was a very respectful and coachable kid.

So basically everything went the exact opposite of the way i thought it would 🙂

Now for arm strength right now i can keep a straight line from one side of the diamond to the other. If i rainbow it I can make it a little farther. What would be my best bet to be able to throw harder and farther. Im thinking is sign up for Parks and Rec league, pitch there, as well as get a net and throw every day. Of course lifting weights is a necessity. For the kind of strength i am looking for does 2x sets 10 reps each on a 25lbs dumb bell sound too much?
