Let me start by detailing my system: I run an overclocked Athlon 64 3000+, but get the same problems stock. I have a gig of RAM and a BIOS overclocked X1800XT running on 5.13 drivers. I am playing the latested patched version of Battlefield 2, v1.12. I play with everything set to high, 1600x1200, 6xAdaptiveAA.

First, sometimes the game won't start, black screen and then to the desktop it goes. I know what causes this, it is the inability of Battlefield 2 to change my display's resolution. In other words, for so odd reason my resolution won't change (Display Properties or in CCC) and this causes the game to not start. This actually isn't a big problem, since it happens rarely and rebooting always fixes it, but I thought I'd mention it.

Another minor problem is the sound always gets hung and loops for about 15 seconds before each level loads up. Merely annoying.

The real problems come once I get into the game. It is VERY choppy at first, although I think this is just the result of my single GB of RAM and all settings on High. The problem is, occasionally on a death or respawn, the game will lock up and become corrupted graphically. Multi-colored static-filled bars about 10 pixels tall stripe the screen horizontally. This tyipically locks up my computer fully, but if I successfully alt-tab out of the game and come back in, it goes back to working fine!

Other graphical anomilies that do not crash my system exist too. Shadows are blocky, I understand this is an issue that seemingly randomly affects nVidia and ATI users alike. Aslo, at rare times, foliage, buidings and gun scopes (the image on screen when you hold the gun up to zoom) all become black, shapeless objects. They do it all at once, and go away after I die.

I just disabled "write combing", I'll report back if that fixes anything. Does anyone have any idea what the cause of all this could be? FYI, Half Life 2 runs PERFECTLY and looks great, and to be honest Battlefield looks fantastic too when it works. :/
