Vantec Nexus NXP201 Fan-Controller

i have 4 case fans i would like to connect to this vantec fan controller. i have questions before buying this product though.

how does the powering work? right now, my 4 case fans are in two separate "series" with the power supply cord since they have pass throughs. would i need to somehow remove this series so each fan is receiving power independently of the other before connecting it to the vantec? or does the vantec accept one power input from the power supply and divides that equally among the 4 case fans it can control?
 
The controller has one power input from the psu, then the fans connect to the controler. You wouldn't have to remove your series if you didn't want to, but one knob on the controller would control two fans.
 
do a search alot of people were having power problems with these. I reccomend the PC mods version it is bullitproof. I saw someone over here or ][ard FS/FT forums who had a new 1 for sale for only $30.
