Hi guys. I just installed my vantec nexus and its working for my chasis fans. However I also have a Thermaltake Smartfan II on my heatsink and its not taking the nexus control. THe power is coming through it but when I turn the knob nothing happens. It only responds to the control knob it came with. I don't know what to do.
 
I think I read somewhere when doing research about rheobus stuff that you shouldn't hook temperature controlled fans to the rheobus. However, I don't see a problem if you jumpered the open pins, allowing it to run at full speed, then adjusting with the nexus controller. I can try it if you would like, cuz I have a smartfan sitting right here and a rheobus. I would try the jumper setting first, I don't see why that wouldn't work. Good luck.
 
Temp controlled is one of the modes of the Smartfan II. HOwever I took it off to disable that function. The plug splits into 2...a 3 pin fan connector for the motherboard that just tells the mobo fan speed and a 4 pin power connector. I simply plugged in the 4 pin connector to an adaptor that came with the Nexus. It is gettig power through the Nexus. Just ignoring the controls. Please try it if u can bergen. Thanks. What jumper? I think if you don't plug in the manual speed dial and the automatic temp diode, the Smart Fan II will run at max speed.
 
Hey man, I just tried it and it worked perfectly. You have to disconnect the temp sensor and put a jumper on the 2 pin connection where the sensor was connected. That tells the fan to run at full speed. Then connect to your rheobus and voila, it controls the speed. I tested it and it works perfectly. The other 2 pin connection stays unjumpered.

uh i just tried a sec ago and its not working out for me...ugh....3 connectors coming out of fan. 1 for temp sensor 1 for manual control.
My setup i just tried was jumper in temp sensor connector and nothing in manual control. Fan went on full speed. the last connecot came with another adaptor that split it into a 3 pin adaptor for the motherboard that doesn't draw power but tell motherboard fan speed and a molex connector. I plugged the molex connector in an adaptor that came with the nexus. Its not responding..grr...
 
my test setup was :

temp sensor connection jumpered
manual control left open
3-pin straight to rheobus

and i had full control of the speed, i don't think my rheobus is that much different than your nexus

Ok thanks fo much for your help. I figured out what the problem was. SOmehow I had an extra molex power supply in there so it was drawing power from 2 full power sources so limiting it in the Nexus didn't limit power. THanks again. 🙂
