Hello Everybody,

Xoxide has a sale on the Vantec Nexus NXP-201 Silver Fan Controller. It's on sale for $12.99 plus shipping. Seems that shipping varies greatly depending on where you live (for me in Southern California, shipping was right around $10 for the cheapest option, for others it may be cheaper [as Aphex has pointed out below]) even at $23 SHIPPED for me, it matches the lowest price listed on PriceWatch :)

Great price! One concern is that several reviews mention a buzzing sound at low voltage settings -- chiggachu, do you notice a noise, and if so, how would you compare it to the sound level of a fan at 7V? Thx!

^ Yeah, I wish it were cheaper, I mean, how heavy is this thing, LOL. I wasn't expecting more than $6 for the cheapest option, and DEFINITELY wasn't expecting a steep $14 for 3 Day Select shipping.

Peace

I really only notice the buzzing if I startup the computer from a high voltage and then turn it down to a lower voltage. If i start up my computer w/ a low voltage i really dont hear anything until i up the voltage then drop it again. It comes w/ 3 pin extension cords but i wish it came w/ a few more 3pin to 4 pin molex adapters because i have one running my hsf and one running the 3 other fans which leaves the other 2 controllers unused.

No noticeable buzzing sound from mine, but its probably masked by noisy system (15k rpm SCSI etc.)

I had to cannibalize some plugs I had lying around in order to use all the channels with my large-connector fans.

Most people dont really care about REAL nice and silent system if you do then the buzzing will drive you MAD

its ridiculously loud when fans are set at 7v... actually its not tremendously loud but its one of those super annoying sounds.

..Yeah, I read several reviews and they all mentioned the buzzing noise the Nexus made - which kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it.

For a little more here are a couple of options:
Sunbeam Rheobus Fan Speed Controller for $17.99. IIRC, reviews were good -- the only problem is that it goes down to zero volts, so DON'T attach your HSF to it!!!

5.25" Noise Isolator PWM Fan Controller for $19.99. Anyone know where I can get something to connect to the power connectors shown here?

that sunbeam looks pretty good and the review is good.

Anybody know if the sunbeam comes with some 3pin extension cables?

i have 3 of the nxp-201. the buzzing is a nonissue. sure it would be nice if it didn't exist, but you can only hear it if your face is up to the unit. at a distance of 2-3 feet oyu can't hear it anymore, esp over the noise of fans and harddrive. and i keep my fans running at like 25% power:p so its practically silent. i've never once heard the buzz over the sound of the pc. its not that my pc is loud, even the psu fans are hooked up to the unit. not to mention the fans i slowed were vantec stealths to begin with. case islined with .5" accoustic foam to boot. i chose the vantec over the sunbeam because i think the sunbeam is ugly, and reviews seem to say the led is too bright. that and i like how the leds on the nxp always stay on, even if you don't use all the knobs. 15-18watts per channel, so you can hook up multiple fans to each knob. on one case i have 4 led 80mm on the first channel.

that and the nxp uses different tech, from what i've read it rapidly turns on and off the current to control speed. so it uses less power at lower settings. the sunbeam on the otherhand disapates the extra energy as heat, adding heat to your case and wasting power. not tomention the printing on the sunbeam seems pretty hokey.

the nxp's also come with a decent amount of cables.

theres a bit of back lighting as bonus, light leaks out the back that you might be able to see if you have a clear/window. if you have a cold cathode, the color mixes with the blue and is seen through the rings.

anazoal .. I have a 92mm Vantec Torando ... I would need something that goes below 7v probably ... wouldnt you think? Or would 7v quite even a Tornado. I want to get a fan controller so when I am surfing the web and sleeping, I can have it very silent, but when I am gaming ... I can turn the fans up a bit and help cool down the CPU. 7v isnt even half of 12v and a tornado running at 12v is unbearable, I think I would need to go under 7. Please correct me if I am wrong ... cause I dont want to buy a piece of hardware thinking one thing and then have it turn out being another.

Thanks
