I bought a Vantec NexStar 3 - NST-360SU-BL:

http://www.vantecusa.com/product-storage.html#

And I put in a Seagate 300GB drive, and the other day I noticed that when I tried to delete something it wouldn't let me, but I can write to the drive just fine.

The drive seems ok, but I was wondering since this is a USB case, could there be anything USB related causing an issue like this?

What tests, or what should I check for to make sure the drive is working correct?

THANKS

Well this makes the second Seagate in a row to that seems like its died on me. But can there be problems with External USB cases that mess up hard drives?

I just can't believe this drive died, I wonder if there is something to this Vantec case that has messed it up, hmm

Well chkdsk shows bad clusters, that makes two Seagates in a row dying on me, hmm

So much for either these Segates or this Vantec USB case is messing up drives, either way no more Vantec external cases and Segate hard drives for me.

weird. How much cooling does the Vantec case provide? Is the HD overheating?

I'd say the only cooling it provides is the case, being in contact with the hdd is all.

Anyone else know anything or have experience with these Vantecs?

No worries I'm dumping this one and going with the Coolermaster X-Craft for now, and if it turns out bad then I'll give the Vantec NexStar GX a try.

THANKS
